SVA Mirrors

Saw some bike mirrors on the Demon Tweeks site with built in indicators. Providing the mirror itself is OK are you allowed to have the side repeaters fitted to the mirror for SVA purposes?

Would they comply with the distance regulations etc. If so, worst case is you could fit 'em and just leave the connection till after?

Hi Barry

I've used convex bike mirrors fitted with indicators. On mine, they are not visible from the rear of the car so I fitted separate repeaters. I also have front indicators just near the headlights.

The SVA tester was concerned that I had too many indicators but he passed them nonetheless.

I think it would have been perfectly alright to have dispensed with the front indicators or blanked of the mirror indicators. Having both as I have might give you a problem.

If the ones you are getting are visible from the rear, side and front they should be fine as repeaters.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, interesting comment that John. SVA insist that they are a certain distance apart but do they specify how far back from the front. If not specified I could use the mirrors as the front indicators and have separate repeaters as suggested by John, What does anybody else think?

I'm keen to hear replies on this. I have those mirrors in a box at home. I was wondering what to do as I know they are no good as repeaters. What worries me about using them as the fronts, is that people don't expect to look that far back for the lights - the SVA man might well have issues.

Hi Chaps

Just another thought.

Although I got through SVA with mine I think the safer route is not to wire the mirror indicators and just go the conventional route with normal indicators and repeaters.

As mirrors, they are superb and give a really good field of view. Well worth using.
