Raceleda calipers, discs and pad fitting
I have just fitted the complete Raceleda front brake package and when I fitted the pads I noticed they do not make full contact with the disc. There
is about 3-4mm of pad material overhanging the outer edge of the disc. I take it this is normal but it looks like the caliper needs to go 3-4mm closer
to the hub to get the pad to make full contact with the disc.
Is this how it is supposed to be?

most productions cars seem to wear with a very very thin lip on the disc, like 1-2mm i'd say the caliper should be closer to the hub. make sure
full contact is made

It is not the disc that will wear on the edge it is the pad that isn't far enough onto the disc, therefore the pad as it wears will cover the
outer edge of the disc. I'll try to get a photo later.

Sorry, doesn't sound good, all of the pad should be able to contact the disc. What upright are you using?

The uprights are Raceleda lightweight Cortina. I have just upgraded from standard Ford M16 calipers and discs which all fitted perfect to all Raceleda
calipers, discs and Hawk pads.

yea thats what mine were like, its ok, when you bleed the brakes, the pistons move the pads closer to the disks and keep them there so they dont
rattle about

Strangly the brakes are more effective if there is a slight overlap. The reason is that the average radius has increaced giving the effect of a
slightly larger disc.
Not sure you would notict it though as it would only be 5% or so.

Doesn't sound right to me. Every drake disc I've seen ends up with a lip where the pads sit slightly inside the outer circumference of
the disc. from what you describe I'd be worried that the pads would wear with a lip that would be prone to fracturing and disintergrating - not
desirable.
What does your supplier say?

Could it be that the calipers not are for Cortina uprights?
Maybe the missing contact areal is why I didn’t get a good feeling with the brakes. (p.s. he bought them from me)
How does it brake?

Hi PWL,
I'm sure they are for cortina uprights as they are meant to be a Ford M16 replacement caliper.
I have only been able to do a short test run so far but they seem to stop the car very well.
There just seems to me to be a mismatch somewhere.
