Wishbone suspension and bushes
dubstar_04 - 30/11/08 at 09:38 PM

I am about to weld up my wishbones but before I do I want to get some advise on the bushes and housing.

I already have some bushes that came with outer housing and crush tubes (from wischbeck?) but they seem very narrow in comparison to the brackets (from optimum balance)

If I proceed with the parts I already have I will need a lot of spacers or washers and the crush tubes are very loose on M12 bolts.

I can get anything I need made very easily I just need to know whats best.

Any advice or pics will be helpful.

Many thanks,

Dan

They are loose because they are 1/2" not 12mm.

You will need spacers turning up or multi washers.

I am running them on the back of mine.

having some spacers will allow you to fine tune your caster. use washers until you have set your caster then make up matching solid spacers.

I have just knocked up a drawing of my wishbones as I am going to get the plate lazer cut.

I would appreciate it if people could have a look and recommend any alterations and the position for the suspension bracket to enable me to reduce the material.

Are you planning on cutting out slots on the tubs to insert the plate, the drawing looks like it? Personally I wouldn't do that; make some cut outs in the plate to take the width of the tubes and then weld to the outside of the tube. Made the radius at the rear of the plate as big as possible to reduce stress raisers (i.e. smaller radius, but bigger 'bite' out of the plate).
