I am asking on behalf of a friend (as he hasn't got himself registered yet).
This friend of mine just happens to have a tuned (about 400bhp) Subaru Impreza P1 engine laying around and is thinking that maybe a kit would be the
best place for it to go...
Has anyone on here used a flat 4 as I understand they are rather wide...
I sugested a Viento as I know the engine bay in mine is massive, but anyone else done this before and can offer any advice?

god knows what gear box you would use.

Most RWD conversion for Scoobies seem to be based upon knackering the front diff..... Not exactly subtle....
Now a 4x4 Locost would be interesting..... If perhaps overkill!!!
Ohterwise I'd sell the engine for a packet and buy something like a twin turbo 200sx engine

It makes the most sense to keep the FWD tranny and use the entire assembly in a mid-engine configuration.
And I just happen to have written a book about using FWD engines in the rear!
I did read somwhere on this site that someone has tried to use a scooby but could not get it to fit inside the chassis rails and provide clearance for the front wheels

A couple of guys in my club had made a start on a chassis that was quite similar to the Ariel Atom. The plan was to put some sort of Turbo Subaru
motor in that.
Not sure how far they got with it though.

Mid engine would be the way to go (thats what I am trying with standard driveshafts etc). I think the 4WD box may be usable but would require some
work to lock up the normal RWD output shaft. I have gone for the 2WD box from an earlier model (Liberty?) it fits straight up and is a couple of
inches shorter. The clutch on the 2WD is cable operated, the other hydraulic so that might require some sorting. Subies don't have a great name
for gearbox longevity but that is with 4Wd and a heavier chasis.
