Fireblade fuel pump.

Just notice the fuel pump is running all the time, shouldn't it cut in and out as fuel is needed?? Sure it used to.

Any ideas please.

i have a fireblade pump on a pinto (fireblade carbs) it ticks maybe once per second when on tickover,

runs all the time if it doesnt have any fuel,

Theres plenty of fuel, would it run all the time if was sucking air and fuel??

It should start out fairly quickly when the car first starts and then slow right down (but not stop). It needs to keep turning over to maintain the pressure.

Have you taken the fuel pipe off the carbs and checked its flowing properly? Should soon bleed any air in the fuel line out with full flow going through.

No I haven't taken the pipe off the carbs, will check that tomorrow night and repost..

Any other suggestions??

sometimes if the cap of the pump where the hoses connect gets bent/warped the pressure side of the pump just leaks back to the supply side so pressure is not retained. This could be your problem if nothing else is obvious.

It can be fixed by adjusting the pump top but really you'd need to take it apart to know how to bend it.

just thinking have you got it mounted below the tank, its a gravity fed pump,

Pump is level with the bottom of the tank but fed from a pipe in the top, sucking from the bottom.
Everything has been fine for the past 2 years since I bought the car, only just started playing up this weekend as far as I know.

If i give the pump a light tap while its running with just the ignition on it stops but when the engine is started it runs all the time.
If it turns out to be the pump, would one of these do??Pump

If wacking the pump changes what it does then its probably the pump.

In my case when the pump kept going it meant I had (yet another) fuel leak from the carbs. So that is always something to look out for.

That Facet pump might work, but the general view is that those mitsubishi pumps that are used on bikes are a good option (generally reliable, cheap, light, don't produce too much pressure).

Pump shoudl be below fuel tank.

The shoudl stop ticking once pressure is build up in the system

If the pump is running than you have air/fuel leaks....I know the feeling and wasted months trying to solve the issue. Finally I discarded the carbs in favour of a set cleaned and set by Andy (AB Performance)...then the fuel stopped ticking once and for all!
