Hi chaps after building and selling my gs moon buggy that I converted to a honda fireblade
gs-moon-road-legal-buggy-converted-to-honda-cbr900-fireblade-t44538.html
I was lost without having a buggy in my life so after a year of looking I found a 2006 joyner 650 sandviper that's been converted to a 1300cc SUZUKI hayabusa 200bhp engine .
I traveled 15 hours to get it and boy was it worth it this thing is mental !
It's got 200bhp and weighs 500kg making it around 400bhp per tonne which is more than some Ferraris Lamborghinis etc
It drives lovely and I'll be improving it along the way.

This is the full spec as it stands now :

Looks like a lot of fun, 400bhp per tonne is more most ferraris Lamborghinis etc.

One question though, how on earth is that get road legal?

Assume it's not been IVA'd?

Edit - just want to say I'm not criticising any build quality just when I saw the front I imagined the IVA Man poking his projection stick around the front!

Its a lot of fun everyone stops and stares. It's been iva tested all road legal with logbook etc

computid - 30/6/15 at 08:29 AM

Whats it registered as on the V5?

Also, didn't you post on facebook the other day about wanting to turbo charge it? What's made you change your mind and made you want to sell it?

Thanks

Buggybuilder - 30/6/15 at 08:45 AM

Registered as a 1300cc joyner buggy, didn't wana sell it tbh but if I get what I want I might consider it. Was thinking about a turbo but I took it out again over day and tbh it really doesn't need it lol

dilley - 30/6/15 at 09:48 AM

Great buggy! I know it well.

Buggybuilder - 30/6/15 at 10:00 AM

YouTube link to a video I done the other day testing it out.

Is this mr Dilley that made this buggy ?

dilley - 30/6/15 at 02:50 PM

Yes, it's me!

Buggybuilder - 30/6/15 at 02:59 PM

Ideal she's a beauty just changed every nut and bolt for a4 stainless steel now as they're starting to rust. Broke a driveshaft the over day so waiting on some single piece hardened ones to be made by brand engineering in birmingham.

dilley - 30/6/15 at 03:09 PM

It certainly works well, far better than I thought. How did you get in with the toggle switch?

Buggybuilder - 30/6/15 at 03:17 PM

Oh yes, I love the look of bikers faces when you overtake them it's priceless !
Yep it's a engine start cutoff switch, u must of thought it was guna stolen so u put a secret cut off switch in it lol

Also while ur here any idea what steering colum it's got on it ? As the uj joints have some play in them now so need to source a new steering column with the uj joints. I think its original buggy but going by the new ones online it looks a lot longer ? Not sure.

Buggybuilder - 2/7/15 at 09:44 AM

Changed all the threaded bar that was used in the diff and engine mounts for proper stainless steel shouldered bolts. Changed every single nut bolt and washer for a4 marine grade stainless steel.

The old chain adjuster had mild steel threaded bar welded on and the threads where bent and started to strip the thread so I cut that off and welded some stainless steel threaded bar in and strengthened it.

Ordered a new pipercross air filter as the old one was worn out.

Ordered some new fenders as ones broken.

Fitted some proper rubber mounts on the fuel tank.

The broken shafts I'm getting custom made hardened single piece ones made this week.

In the process of getting a stainless steel exhaust made up for it now.

Buggybuilder - 6/7/15 at 07:16 PM

Stripped, painted and replaced the bolts with stainless steel ones in the reverse starter motor.

Buggybuilder - 6/7/15 at 07:19 PM

Found some old pictures of the buggy.

Buggybuilder - 6/7/15 at 07:20 PM

Starting to get ideas for some custom graphics for it.

dilley - 6/7/15 at 09:17 PM

Looking good ! Those photos where when it was being built and just finished.

dilley - 6/7/15 at 09:19 PM

What do you do as a job?

Andybarbet - 6/7/15 at 10:04 PM

Looking good :-)

Might be worth a tinternet search on bolts though, I was told years ago not to use them on suspension parts as they might break, not sure how true it is but I'm pretty sure stainless is more brittle so not suited to certain uses.

Keep up the good work though, it looks mental !

I cannot remember although I do remember looking into a fiat chinqy thingy rack...

Buggybuilder - 7/7/15 at 07:28 AM

Cheers fellas it's getting there, I'm an engineer/mechanic mate. It looks original buggy to me the steering rack looks custom made though as I can't find another one like it. Good shout about the bolts I havnt used any on the suspension side of it. I was getting rust bleed from the old bolts that was used as they're 5 years old now lol was starting to ruin it abit. Can't beat stainless steel cost me about £60 though !
Looking foward to getting the shafts back and getting it back on the road again.
I wana get 4 wheel alignment done on it to just to make sure everything's straight and camber angles etc are correct so I'll do that soon. Also need to pump up the suspension as that's abit soft atm.
Ordered a gear indicator now too so you know what gear you're in.

Buggybuilder - 7/7/15 at 07:43 AM

This is the fireblade buggy I built last year was gutted to sell it.

Buggybuilder - 7/7/15 at 09:10 AM

The speedo healer records the top speed for you, so here's what it's done so far.

dilley - 7/7/15 at 09:19 AM

I would check against gps.

Buggybuilder - 12/7/15 at 01:17 PM

New hardened driveshafts have been made

Shafts fitted

New ford r's turbo inner cv joints

New Astra mk4 1.6 outer cv joints

Decided to fit a gear indicator to it so I know what gear I'm in !

Magnet bracket made

Final fitted product

Buggybuilder - 21/7/15 at 06:00 PM

New mirrors fitted

New rear mudguard fitted

Fitted and wired in the coolant fan switch as it never had one

Made and Fitted a lockable luggage box as I'm fed up with having nowhere to put anything !

Decided to put some colour on the buggy so designed these graphics to go down the side of it.

CosKev3 - 21/7/15 at 06:14 PM

Which lunatic has driven it at that speed? ??
Must be a right handful?

How's the gear indicator work?

[Edited on 21/7/15 by CosKev3]

franky - 21/7/15 at 06:15 PM

Looks like fun.

I'd give £20 to charity if it did do 0-60 in 2.5

Buggybuilder - 21/7/15 at 06:20 PM

Ha it loves going fast
There's a magnet that moves over 2 pickup points which counts the gears it's meant for a bike but I've made it fit this, works really well tbh wasn't easy to fit though.

Ah right, sounds good.
Acumen etc use revs/speed but can get confused if you down shift fast or threw a few gears.
what brand is yours please?

Buggybuilder - 21/7/15 at 06:31 PM

This is it, just a cheap eBay thing surprising how well it works though I'll get a video up soon.

Buggybuilder - 21/7/15 at 06:46 PM

Video of the gear indicator working.

http://youtu.be/x8hX99pEYqc

CosKev3 - 21/7/15 at 07:13 PM

Looks good thanks

What's the minimum distance needed between sensors for it to work?

Buggybuilder - 21/7/15 at 07:28 PM

Pretty sure u can put the sensors right next to each other it works by the magnet passing over the top of the sensor so u can put it anywhere u want as long as it goes over the sensor it'll work

Buggybuilder - 2/8/15 at 09:26 AM

Decided to make the rear suspension mounts adjustable so I can raise/lower the rear end easy.

Buggybuilder - 2/8/15 at 09:39 AM

New stickers fitted

Buggybuilder - 2/8/15 at 10:04 AM

Electric reverse in action

http://youtu.be/bozKDA4-yXU

dilley - 2/8/15 at 03:38 PM

Cracking idea on the adjustable upgrade!

Buggybuilder - 2/8/15 at 03:51 PM

At least I can adjust it to suit the driveshafts ride height etc now. Gota take the arms off grind them down smooth and powdercoat them etc did u do it in satin black ?

Buggybuilder - 3/8/15 at 09:14 PM

Buggybuilder - 25/8/15 at 09:18 PM

Got a leaking radiator and oil cooler now
Found out the mk2 mazda mx5 alloy one is a close fit so instead of buying another buggy one for £250 I'm guna make the mx5 one fit instead ! It'll be a lot easier to get hold of a mx5 one than a buggy one anyway.
I'll use a mocal oil cooler this time so hopefully it'll be stronger than the last one. Also need to make some new custom oil lines to suit.

New rad.

Buggybuilder - 25/8/15 at 09:22 PM

Quick video of it on the road

http://youtu.be/LwqTYv9jGO8

Buggybuilder - 28/8/15 at 09:11 PM

Mazda mk5 mk2 alloy radiator now fitted.

Seeing if it'll fit !

Made up some stainless steel spacers for the radiator to sit in.

All on and fitted surprised at how well it fits considering it's meant to be on a mazda mx5 ! Bottom hose is on the same place so that doesn't have to be moved and the top hose just needs a 90 degree bend taken out of the hose and it lines up perfect. Need to weld on the brackets underneath for the oil cooler to fit on and it's done.

Buggybuilder - 3/9/15 at 08:36 PM

Made the oil cooler brackets up today, was going to weld brackets straight onto the rad but then I thought if it ever needs to be changed again then it's more hassle to reweld it all the time so made everything bolt onto it.

Top brackets all made up and painted.

Bottom brackets all made and painted.

All fitted just need the new stainless jubilee clips to come and the anodised an fittings.

Had to get hose reducers as the rads 32mm and hoses are 25mm.

Had to make up a t piece alloy top water tube for the thermostate bleed pipe to fit into.

Buggybuilder - 9/9/15 at 05:50 PM

Braided stainless oil hose come today with the anodized an fittings.

Extreme engines alloy an adaptors come too.

Hoses all made up ready to fit.

There we go new rad, oil cooler and oil hoses all fitted and down thank god !
Next on the list is new gaz gold coilovers
