Fuel system parts for CANAMSA
Fred W B - 18/8/07 at 07:16 PM

After much deliberation on the fuel storage question, I finally ordered 2 foam filled composite 5 gal (20 L) fuel cells from Summit Racing USA. I also ordered a fuel pump, regulator, filter and various connection fittings and braided hose while I was at it.

I am going to fit these cells one just in front of each rear wheel, and connect them both to a third fabricated tank in the space behind the seat bulkhead. This center tank will be the same height as the cells, but wider and triangular in section and will have the fuel gauge sender fitted into it. The connecting pipes will be fitted with valves so as to be able to run only on the LHS side tank on track, if desired, as the pump will be fed from the LHS tank. The breather vent lines are -6 (3/8) while the fuel supply pipes are -8 (1/2) before the pump and -6 (3/8) after.

The cells are listed at 90 USD / 650 SAR / 46 UKP each in the Summit catalogue, and ended up costing 142 USD / 1025 SAR / 73 UKP each landed here by airfreight.

Cheers

sorry, can't resist .....

20l = 4 gal approx.

(or 4.38 if you're being a real pedant)

:p

(yes i know an american gallon is smaller than a UK one - just wanted to be silly for a moment)

Should have said US gal

1 US gal = 3.785 L so 5 gal = 18.93L
1 UK gal = 4.546 L so 5 gal = 22.73L

Cheers

Not if your talking about US gallons as I think Fred is.

The fuel system is actually very topical for me as I have been mocking up my fuel tank in cardboard today... single tank with a 91litre internal capacity.

I will say that I used a holley pump and regulator on my Ultima and I found the regulators really unrealiable, so definatellt something to watch, I recomend fitting a pressure guage before the carb.

Looks good Fred, and a very similar setup to mine. I've got 2 x 25 litre tanks in the side pods but run the pump and sender in the left one with a balance pipe between the two.
My only regret is making the balance pipe only 10mm - the V6 draws more fuel than the balance pipe can supply (with just gravity assistance) and your extra central tank should overcome this problem.
