Internet Speed Checker?
MikeCapon - 14/4/11 at 12:21 PM

A long while ago someone posted a link on here that tested your connection showing upload and download speeds.

Was anyone smart enough (unlike me) to have bookmarked it?

Or does anyone else have another link?

Thank you all in advance,

Mike

You think that's bad

ETA This is the day after swapping ISP after they promised a minimum of 2Mb.

And thanks 40inches. (Is that a TD2B?)

Really depends on what you use the internet for to determine whether that is good or bad

Ben_Copeland - 14/4/11 at 03:50 PM

Don't do it on your laptop over wireless though. As it won't give a realistic speed

mine says its quick but its really playing up and keeps dropping out. Talk Talk will be getting another phone call in the morning

Liam - 14/4/11 at 05:17 PM

Bwa haa!!

Amazingly, that's all going out of the router, through a couple of walls, and into a cheap USB wireless dongle in a wobbly USB port (cos I keep catching it with my foot). Amazing.

@Snuggs - that's impressive! Is that just the normal Virgin 50Mb package? I know Virgin cable is pretty great at delivering the speed you pay for, but faster??!!

Has anybody used the scan on their site. Looks as though this scans the registry for errors but is this OK / safe to do?

John.

Normally between 48 and 52 but I have had it as high as 67

Upload should be about 5 but I only ever get 4.7

scootz - 14/4/11 at 06:12 PM

Showed 1.2mbps for me on that website... I've since gone onto four other websites and each has come back with 720kbps!

steve m - 14/4/11 at 07:01 PM

Ive just redone the test twice over the last few miniutes, and have come up with
two totally different results, so does this checker actually work ?

MikeCapon - 14/4/11 at 07:28 PM

Seems pretty consistent to me.

Consistently $hite

Peteff - 14/4/11 at 11:00 PM

It depends a lot which server you connect to I think. We get anything between 9 and 19mbps on Talk talk.

That looks like what we used to get from our O2/Sky/BT 5meg line...

Thing is what ratio should we have between up and down?

thats at my work
at my parents (5 miles away) they get 0.48mb/s, 0.3mb/s, 150ms

unfortunatly we don't get much of a choice out here - there arn't any virgin cables anywhere in the county (and no bt infinity either)

Ninehigh - 21/4/11 at 03:28 PM

Isn't that worse than dialup?

In fact wouldn't dialup register as about 0.55?

mcerd1 - 21/4/11 at 03:55 PM

there dial up was about 1/4 of that if I remember right
