Hi all,

I've looked and looked everywhere, and can't find a decent bodywork file anywhere....

I'm after a flat, close toothed very solid old fashioned bodywork file, as used to finish metalwork after hammer/slapper and dolly work. All I can find are the 'dreadnaught' coarse tooth ones for leadwork, which is fine when you want to do leadwork!

Anyone got any ideas? I'm not after locost, they are expensive, but just can't find any anywhere.... Paul, Fozzie, anyone???

Hmm, OK - perhaps I've ben looking for the wrong thing..... I'm after a solid heavy file that can be used as a slapper then as a file, like the metal finishers used to use on bodywork back in the day...

Perhaps they don't exist any more..

Chris, I've seen heavy files both flat and half round bent to make slappers or flippers but from memory, I think they have been ground smooth so could not be used as files.

David Gardiner in his excellent DVD uses flat non adjustable body files but they are coarse Vixen type. He does not like the adjustable ones because he says they come loose and are just not as good as the fixed ones. I would have thought that you would definitely need a coarse file for aluminium and use soap as a lubricant.

You may have said but if so I've missed it, can I ask what the project is?
