whats the name of this that Im trying to describe

you take a wire cable....loop it back on itself ...to errrr... create a loop. Hold them together.

Then a metal clip is put round it and crimped tight, so your left with a loop at the end of the wire thats strong and wont come loose.

Without knowing what these pieces of metal are called, searching for crimp, clip and other names brings back all sorts!

What are you trying to make?

I used the loop a piece of wire trick when making a teather for my fuel cap. I used the bottom part of a electrical terminal, the part you crimp round a cable when making the end if a wire. I just cut of the "spade part", removed the plastic outer and had a ready made crimp to create a hoop that once crimped was secure.

I'll bet it's for the boot lid, to stop it opening too far as that was one of his IVA fail points.
If it's any use, for my bonnet stays I made the wire loop, with a long return (6 inches or so) and used heat shrink over it to hold it together. Wasn't sure if it'd be strong enough but it turns out that it is, more than. Your lid might be heavier of course, but if you're after a quick -n- easy just for the test, it might do.
