Rear light / tyre clearance + IVA Sidelight question
bigdrew - 17/9/11 at 08:58 PM

Hi all, Current have the NAS lights and have drilled the holes and mounted the bracket things as seen here Here and I have very little clearence (15mm) between the Tyre and the end of the light. It dosen't rub however. Is this going to upset the IVA man?

Also, I'm just wondering where in the manual it states that side lights need to be operated from a permanant feed? I can't see it in "22 End-outline, Position (Side), Stop, Side Marker & Daytime Running Lamps" which is where I would expect it to be?..

I have got those fitted - as you say, they seem to be a bit close to the tyre, however, my IVA man didn't bother about them. If you are really short of room, S-V-C do the same lights but the wiring comes out at a right angle - you can just see in this link photo ( top right ).

I don't think there is any requirement for permanent feed to the sidelights? The only permanent live requirement is to the hazards.

Make sure if you are using the NAS lights that the lens in the foglight is the correct one - it has to throw a parrallel beam. This was one fail on my test - my 'SVA compliant set' supplied by CBS foglight was the same as the tail lights.

Don't forget that the foglight needs to be mounted vertical, and watch the edges on any reflectors you fit - they have been a common fail point.

Hope this is of some help, bigdrew.

Cheers for the picture, Loads of help Solved my other question on securing the wires in the arches as well. I will be ok if I use the lights with out the proper conector plug (Solder directly to the terminal and fill with silicon. I think my Fog light will need changing as it isn't 'F' or 'B' marked so thanks for the heads up there!

There are loads of threads which crop up about side lights and the usual response is that the need to work with the Ign off.Such as this one But I can't see anything in the IVA manual which states it..

From this it looks like it might be a MOT thing rather than IVA?..

Have to agree with that idea - I had quite a few hiccups when fitting my rear lights because those connector plugs are pretty poor. Soldering sounds a good idea.

I,ve used the same lights & also soldered the connections to create a little more clearance for the tyre, I used some split conduit araldited to the underside of the wing to run my wires thru, seems quite secure & hopefully will be ok for Mr IVA man

cheers
