Is this battery & box a good deal?
Cheffy - 19/3/14 at 09:27 PM

Evening all,

Looking for a battery and battery box and was gonna go for an Odyssey PC680 and then find a box to fit - possibly a box from OBP.

However, I've just found this on Ebay:-

PVR 22 Clubsport Race Battery + Bracket Caterham Westfield Locost Tiger FREE P&'P

Running a 2.0l Zetec Blacktop. Would this battery be up to the job? Price for battery and bracket is very good, and as far as I'm aware Powervamp are decent batteries.

TIA,

Mart.

Max charge current is 6 Amps, so how it would do after a period of cranking the engine when the alternator could give a considerable charge.

Not sure how it would damage the battery over time, but doubt if it would be good.

just my view of course.

Adrian

Just had a look at the odyssey battery and that has a 6 Amp rate according to some tech blurb I had to search fr.

So perhaps not that much different.

No just gone through it again and the odyssey battery seems to cope with large inrush currents, so I give up.

I've had a smaller version of that on my car for the last 7years. Never missed a beat. It's only turning an R1 over but stands for a few months occasionally with the battery cut off ON and the immobiliser and ECU drawing some (tiny) current and it flys over every time.

Just bought one for my westfield
I asked the same question on the forum and got good reviews from owners, some using them on high comp highly tuned engines
A trickle charger over winter might prolong life but as far as powers concerned its winding my zetec over perfectly

Do these batteries use different terminal connectors to a normal car battery?

scimjim - 20/3/14 at 02:06 PM

from the ebay ad:

Can't read that on my phone, will check on laptop later.

For anyone else who has only scanned the main advert, they also sell an adaptor Cs22 to use normal battery clamps

Cheffy - 20/3/14 at 03:56 PM

Now ordered - complete kit with charger

Thanks for all the feedback and info chaps.

Mart.

I bought new battery leads with ring terminals
Ive heard mixed reviews re the adaptors to a standard clamp

Yea, I'm making up my own cables anyway so gonna stick with ring terminals.

Sorry to jump on this thread, but do we think this battery would have the muscle to turn over a 3.0 Alfa engine?

Regards Dan.

Would this be suitable for a Duratec powered MK ?

Daniel, you can always borrow this one and try it out. But I'm sure you already thought of that!
