Automatic wire strippers?
number-1 - 12/8/21 at 01:52 PM

Can anyone suggest a decent yet cheap set of automatic wire strippers? I need to strip bits of wire mid loom to splice some other wires in and solder. Its on a car injection loom

Any pointers or links?

I have had a pair of these for about 15 years, used every day when I was working, still going strong

Knippex. Expensive but you'll only ever buy them once.

I have two of them - but - not from the same source and the two cost very much less than the one. Why two? Put one down and couldn't find it, bought another and it turned up before the second one arrived - doh!

This was the sort of thing - Thanks for the idea Nick205 but I am going to keep them both - if I sell a pair I just know I'll misplace the other one

Not automatic, but wire strippers that you can set the gap and are small are useful for working in confined spaces; such as by Elliot Lucas (I have some new old stock ones which were UK made): https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/hand-tools/cable-and-wire-stripping-tools/pa1953-6inch-95-maxigrip-wire-strippers/p/ELL5582123E or secondhand similar Picador German made items: https://vintagetoolshop.com/products/6-vintage-picador-wire-strippers-w-insulated-grips-34380 or by CK: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193888468373?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D233199%26meid%3D51e3875b4fa14ac5ac2fec8b6d760 b16%26pid%3D101113%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D194256012479%26itm%3D193888468373%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2563228%26algv%3DDefaultOrganic&_trksid =p2563228.c101113.m2108

The key point that’s been missed is “mid loom” you can’t use those strippers as they pull the excess off the end of wires, mid loom means the excess has nowhere to go.
