Well I thought I was getting away with my 1.0 ecoboost in the c-max...

it had some coolant leaks a couple of years back (heater hoses and thermostat gasket) - but that all seamed fine (did another 10k after that)


stupid wet belts were changed at near enough the 10 years (65k) sump/oil pickup cleaned - but no signs of anything worriying


and then few weeks back got a small missfire at idle when cold

figured the plugs or coils 'might' be the cause and probably worht a shot - especially since I don't have a compression or leakdown tester small enough to fit these stupid tiny plugs

but it didn't even manage 2 miles after the plugs
No coolant left in the tank and will just bearly restart 1 time in 10 - at which point it easts a new tank of coolant in 10sec (its going strait out the exhaust)



a scrapyard engine seems to be about £1250 give or take - but the car is problably only worth £1300-1400 as a trade-in if its fixed (I'd be luky to get £200 for it as scrap and I might still have to get it towed)
could probably buy a whole car of copart or th likes for £500 - but I've got no easy way to transport these anymore

given the cost of getting the wet belt done I can't see any way its going to be cost effective to re-build this engine - never mind the reputation they seem to have for cracked heads etc.


Its already been replaced - so I'm not keeping it regardless, but I'm struggling to make my mind up about what to do with it...

I may just drag it off the road and strip it down, its got some new bits on it like the power fold mirrors cost a fortune last year and the stupid oversize 18" factory alloys seam to go for a few £ etc... (new mind some spares for its replacment)

I did have a silly idea to put a focus ST running gear in it - but I really don't have time for another project - never mind the cost and how much I have electronics

leave it somewhere really rough for a few nights, with a dozen cans of stella on a seat a laptop bag, spray paint and a can of petrol etc. then write something really offensive inside the laptop bag in the hope they break in, nick the beer get offended by the note and torch the car!

Listened to a lad who changes loads of these and he recommends changing at 5 years, hates them with a vengeance but is a good earner for him

I still can't get over the design of them and how Ford believed it was a good idea

You only need to look at "Non runners" on ebay to see for evidence

If you've the room might stripping the C Max down and selling the bits be an option?
