Salon Motorsport Supercharger Dyno results

Hi All,

I thought i would post the results for my supercharger kit.

The spec if the car is as follows.

1991 Eunos 1.6
Salon M45 inlet
Salon M45 Outlet
Salon Bracket and Tensioner
Variable rising rate fuel pressure regulator
Standard ECU
Standard size pulley on the charger
No intercooler.








Its a very simple setup and obviously there is room for more mods and more power but I was very happy with the results.

Looks great, really nice quality kit. I would imagine with an overlay crank pulley and intercooler you should see 200-210 bhp.

Are you going to sell the parts?

Are they for the 1.6 or 1.8?

I have sold a few, currently waiting for more stock to come in. Should be about 3 weeks.

Sorry but i dont know what the inlet temps are. There are a couple of cars being build with a much higher spec then mine so the results should be interesting.

I see that you are using the TB in the standard position and not on the charger like the JRSC or BRP kits.

My experience of this gives much better throttle response and idle at the cost of a lot more noise from the charger.

From my experience of destroying a larger MP62 charger on an MX5 engine made me suspect that the MINI bypass you and I used may not be up to the job when the TB snaps shut at full boost and may cause the charger to stall due to the back pressure. A BOV may be a good idea if only as belt and braces exercise?

Re the extra noise I did find that using an insulated inlet to the charger and a decent sized filter airbox helped a lot.

Just for information I think my charger failed due to back pressure pushing the screws into the case. This I think was caused by a bypass failure due to the vac hose splitting. I can't be 100% on this as I only noticed the split when I removed the hose and could have split it when I removed it. I was very peed off at the time and may not have been that careful!

This happened on a track day at Zolder so was under quite extreme conditions. I think I would fit a BOV if I did it again.

Throttle response is not an issue. allot of inlets seem rather restrictive and i am sure this has a negative effect.

As for noise, it was on the dyno with a cone filter. the airbox will be going back on asap so that should keep it quieter. I will give insulating inlet a go though.

What are you using to insulate it?

I used PVC drain pipe for the inlet then used a couple of sizes of thick wire enforced ducting over the top. It was a bit ghetto but seemed to help. I think the PVC is better than alloy for the sound.

If it hadn't blown up I would have used a couple of layers of exhaust wrap.

Re the throttle response I think I was unclear. I was saying keeping the TB in the original position is the better option for throttle response but makes it louder.

Your kit looks like a really good solution. That mounting bracket looks miles better than a lot of others I have seen. Most make alignment a real issue.

You mean keeping the throttle body in the original position is better for throttle response?

I have some spare exhaust wrap kicking about, i will give it a go.

Just refitted the air-box. its allot quieter then a cone filter.

I will consider it a result.

Hi Gaz, Excellent result. It would be interesting to see the AFR plot if you have got it. Looking forward to news on the Mk 2.5 so that I can follow!

The mk2.5 is running. There is a short video in the Salon Motorsport facebook page. I assume he will be getting it on the dyno this week. After the result we had with our simple set up i expect his car with all the bells and whistles to get really good power. i will keep you posted.

I have made the prototype for the mk1 1.8 bracket this week, i have a feeling it will also fit the mk2, but i will obviously check once it is back from the laser cutters.

Rachel has just insured our charged red car for £144 with all the mods declared. RESULT!!!
