blakep82 - 12/11/10 at 12:01 AM

that page has changed loads literally in the last 10 minutes

oadamo - 12/11/10 at 12:03 AM

i feel this country gone down the pan to far, we let people in thinking we are doing them a favour. and all the do is poo on our door step, i think this country needs to make a stand and fast.
adam

DorsetStrider - 12/11/10 at 12:09 AM

So let me get this right...

They live her to have freedom of speech...

They then burn poppys in protest, thus disrespecting the memory of the brave souls who gave their lives giving them freedom of speech.

I give up... Some people are just too foolish to live. Darwin was obviously corret.

DorsetStrider - 12/11/10 at 12:26 AM

Another thought occurs (two in one day... I must lay down!)

I wonder what these ....erm....people would say if I decided to burn the pakistan flag or say a picture of mohammed.

I wonder if they would be so glad of and respectful of my freedom of speech. Anyone wanna lay odds on the outcome?

balidey - 12/11/10 at 07:52 AM

I know the swear filter will block this out, but that 'demonstration' really winds me up and those bleepers need kicking out of this country and now. I like to think I am a fairly tolerant person, but bleep that, if they want to burn poppys and demonstrate on that day at that time then they are bastards and should be bleeping burnt.

Sorry for the rant, but that really has affected me.

02GF74 - 12/11/10 at 07:59 AM

The irony is they are exercising the freedom of speach that so many have fought for, including my father in WW2.

I don't like to see this but it would be worse if they were not allowed to express their opinion?

No point getting wound up about it. Let's face it, they are just a bunch of lads, a tiny tiny minority, who want to look hard.

and they can f*** off as far as I'm concerned.

[Edited on 12/11/10 by 02GF74]

Benzine - 12/11/10 at 08:04 AM

I think they're angry because hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians have been killed in Iraq/Afghanistan. (I don't agree with burning a poppy as that tarnishes the memories of those who served in the great wars, but I understand anger against britain)

"Everyone's worried about stopping terrorism. Well, there's really an easy way: Stop participating in it." — Noam Chomsky

handyandy - 12/11/10 at 08:21 AM

That is disgusting

They are the scum of society, its about time we as a nation stopped this abuse of the freedom of speech that so many lost their lives to allow us to have the right of freedom of speech, but yet if "I" was to get a soap box & stand in the middle of a high street somewhere & bad mouth these fanatics & express my own personal thoughts to the public , then no doubt I would be arrested for inciting racial discrimination etc

These sort of people "create" racism themselves by their actions as in the news article in this thread, then use the said racism against the population to incite even more hatred.

I wonder what they would be shouting if they were all rounded up, taken to the beach in Dover & told "SWIM" , the very beach that was a focal point of the freedom of this nation that so many gave their lives for .

Sorry for my rant, but like many I,m sure, my own father fought for the freedom of speech & I hate to see the scum of society abuse what he gave to allow us all to live in peace.

GET THEM OUT.

cheers
andy

whitestu - 12/11/10 at 08:21 AM

I don't like it but that is the whole point of freedom of speech. In fact I think we should be more tolerant when defending people's rights to express their opinion.

jabbahutt - 12/11/10 at 08:35 AM

Round them up and throw them out!! Forget freedom of speech this is a step too faralways amazes me that one faction can do what they like and it gets a green light under freedom of speech but if the BNP decided to hold a protest on Ramadna it would be a different story

balidey - 12/11/10 at 08:42 AM

This is NOT freedom of speech. This is hate-mongering. On a special day to remember PEACE. I have not ranted about all the other dozens of times this sort of flag burning happens, but to do it on that day at that time has (in my eyes) removed their freedom of speach.

BenB - 12/11/10 at 08:47 AM

And the Daily Vile wins again.

Okay, so there are about five misguided and thoughtless men who burnt a poppy. What's rather more worrying is that there are ten times more people writing newspapers who have an obvious desire to stir up racial tension and there are (from the readership figures) thousands of people who can't read between the lines and actually see what's the true agenda is. Whilst you have plonkers like the BNP in the country you'll get idiots burning poppies, there's no difference. One could say, however, that the placard about Afghanistan is perhaps true, it's been the thorn in the side of many dwindling empires.

Come on peeps chillax, who cares if there are idiots in this country. We know this already.

Personally I'm very intolerant of intolerance so I'd like to throw out of the country anyone who is intolerant.
And that would include these poppy-burning fellers, the BNP, the entire staff and subscribers of the Daily Fail. And Noel Edmonds- okay he's not intolerant but he gets on my thumpnies.

balidey - 12/11/10 at 08:55 AM

Yeah, I'm with you BenB.... I bleeping hate Edmonds too

carpmart - 12/11/10 at 09:30 AM

Well, the measured opinion is BenB's post, the rest are emotional but to my mind, well founded!

Why should we put up with this kind of extreme behavior? This is not freedom of speech, this is freedom to create hatred!

Just look at the LCB community. The demographic of this site is pretty representative of the country as a whole. We often see posts from people saying things like what a fantastically helpful and considerate group of people we are. Read the posts in this thread from those same 'helpful' and 'considerate' people. It may appear to be an emotional response from some people, but its a real response! Something needs to be done to stop groups like the ones 'colourfully' reported by this article.

I for one would like some direct and decisive action to be taken against these 'protesters'!

Macbeast - 12/11/10 at 09:46 AM

I like the picture of the pliceman, wearing a poppy, escorting the dirtbags

tony-devon - 12/11/10 at 10:09 AM

that page is very different from the way it was first of all

all the pics that were on there of people being escorted away! were EDL, none of the nasty scum that caused the trouble in the first place

what annoys me is that they are so happy to live in a country that offends them so badly

could it be the hundreds in benefits each week, the housing, the health care, the free cars and driving lessons, the free household furniture?

no surely not

I just dont get it, why would they stay here?

adithorp - 12/11/10 at 10:48 AM

Ben is spot on!

It's not the people who do this that annoy me, but those who expliot there situation to breed hate in them... and those who exploit the story to try and breed hate in us.
In reality the extreamists on both sides are working to the same end. They both benefit from the same publicity. We bomb Afganistan (I'm notimplying that was the start), extreamists wind up young men in bad situations and blame us, they burn poppies, 'The Mail writes it story, we protest about "muslim scum", they preach we hate them, they... Oh, thats where we came in.

I we'd be better to see this as a tribute to those who fought and died. Not using or banning the very thing they fought for would be an insult. Accept it (celebrate it even) and the reason for doing it goes away. Ban this and where do you stop? The Mail printing the story, students protesting the cuts, people on forums moaning about taxes...?

breezy - 12/11/10 at 10:48 AM

I only hope more decent citizens of this country turn out on Sunday to show there respects to the fallen. The fallen came from all walks of life and were of many different colours and creed, they all gave there lives for a GREAT purpose - so we ALL could have the Freedom that we enjoy today.
Lets show these so called fanatics that we still have great respect for our forefathers actions - and for those who are still falling, again for us ALL.

REMEMBER THE WORDS OF ENOCH POWELL ,,,,,,,HAD HE MANAGED TO GET IN POWER THIS COUNTRY WOULD NOT BE IN THE MESS IT IS IN NOW ,,,,"""?????????????????

David Jenkins - 12/11/10 at 12:23 PM

Most of the muslims I have met have been decent, law-abiding folk who would be HORRIFIED by behaviour like that.

Don't put the huge majority in the same basket as a few extremist nutters, who are also hated and derided by normal muslims. It's also worth remembering that a large crowd of muslims in their normal muslim clothes stood up and applauded the soldiers marching in Luton (I think it was there) after a small number of extremists got a lot of publicity by booing and shouting abuse in previous parades.

[Edited on 12/11/10 by David Jenkins]

alister667 - 12/11/10 at 12:25 PM

These folks are the equivalent of internet trolls, and they are only doing it to garner outrage and attention from the likes of the god-awful Daily Mail, hoping to make the UK more extremist and get more publicity for a tiny, tiny minority. Just ignore them. All the negative reaction and coverage is what they crave.

It was exactly the same thing as when an Islamic march through Wootton Bassett was suggested. There was no hope of it ever happening, it was only done to stir up outrage and controversy.

Brilliant bit by Charlie Brooker looking into this type of idiocy and the morons in the media happy to play along to stir up some trouble and outrage.

Strontium Dog - 12/11/10 at 12:50 PM

I'm with Benzine on this. Some time ago I spent a couple of years working for Adelphi refugee housing as an electrician. I got to meet many refugees from different countries and backgrounds.

While it is true to say some were free loading scumbags, they were the small minority. I also met chaps like the young Afghan who bore the scars of serious torture, things like the scars of where the bones had poked out of his fingers as each one was systematically broken, one at a time. There was worse too but kids read this forum, my own included.

Now if the above young Afghan had no where to go, he would have been welcome in my home rather than send him back for some more torture and probably a slow and painful death. He is someone's son too you know!

My 84 year old Mother reads the Mail and believes the filth they print. It is those scumbags that promote such racial intolerance we should be looking at first if you ask me!

Do any of you know your heritage? Very few of us are British through and through, this is and island of immigrants and has been for thousands of years. A favourite of mine is that Albert Einstein was a refugee!

Think about it!

Amen to that.

People rapidly forget their own mixed heritage. A patient of mine made me giggle- had a heavy R.O.Irish accent and was saying how she was going to move back to Dublin and that N.W.London wasn't what it used to be- "it's full of foreigners".

David Jenkins - 12/11/10 at 01:26 PM

Absolutely - we're the biggest bunch of mongrels in Europe!

And much the better for it, too.

Not sure I agree. I would say at least 90% of LCB is white and male.

I do not see much non-white, if I can say that, interest in Kit cars, Land Rovers and motorbikes.

Confused but excited. - 12/11/10 at 02:46 PM

Firstly, they are not Muslims, as true Muslims do not have a problem with Christians.

Secondly,we brought this on ourselves by leeting Blair take over Monica Lewinsky's job (Note the blue suits).

The cure? Deport the f*cking lot. Born here or not. If they don't like it here, let them live somewhere else.

AS OF THIS WEEKEND 300 BRITISH SOLDIERS HAVE LOST THERE LIVES IN AFGHANISTAN SINCE 2001

Let's not forget that FREEDOM is not free.

God and the soldier
We alike adore,

In times of peril
Not before

The danger past
And all conflict righted

God is forgotten
And the soldier slighted.

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

'Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well..
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

It's the Soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the Press.
It's the Soldier, not the poet who has given us the freedom of speech.
It's the Soldier, not the politicians that ensures our right to Life, Liberty , and the pursuit of Happiness.
It's the Soldier, that salutes the flag, that serves beneath it, who's coffins are draped by it.

Did you see the TV program that tested various peoples DNA to trace thier geographic roots. They tested one of the leaders of the National Front. Turned out his roots were mainly Polish, Jewish, Slavic, East African.

If these places are so great (wherever it is they're for) then we should have a whip round and pay for them to f**k off. In fact no, we should all chip in to buy a plane.

I'm sure someone on here can fly one, we find these people who hate Britain so much and drop them in whichever country they like.

Then again we're so awful at being human beings maybe we would get the deserts of Afghanistan and the deserts of Siberia mixed up (oops...)

DorsetStrider - 25/11/10 at 10:24 PM

Following on from this thread I noticed THIS story on MSN today.

As I speculated in my earlier post it would appear that freedom of speech/expression is selective.

Discuss

[Edited on 25/11/10 by DorsetStrider]

prawnabie - 25/11/10 at 10:30 PM

Poppys are nothing to do with religion but burning there version of the bible. No need for either of the stunts really

DorsetStrider - 25/11/10 at 10:45 PM

I have to say I tend to agree.

Both were likely to cause unnessicary offense. Both demonstrations were unlikely to achieve anything thus making them pointless. Both just show the people who did it up as rather small pathetic excuses for humanity.

flipp - 27/11/10 at 11:18 PM

deport, kill or remove this scum from our country before they create the havoc that they have caused in their countries.failling that go out buy some red paint,go out the night before a day of worship and paint the walls of a mosque with poppies, then sit back and wait for them to start burning the images.!!

MikeR - 27/11/10 at 11:57 PM

Who are we objecting too here?

Cause today my town has had to endure two sets of people marching through it, both objecting to the others.

Who are we sending to another country? The people who burn the poppies? the people who burn the quran? the people who disagree with me? what about the people who disagree with you? and the people who marched today, the people who disagreed with them?

If you want to send some people who claim to be muslim to another country, then we need to be sending the people who claim to be 'defending our countries history / heretige / what ever'.

ignore me - just annoyed at what i've been reading on the web from both sides and wish the lot would go away and leave 'my' country alone.

Ninehigh - 28/11/10 at 02:43 AM

Good point, we should take all those that burn anything as a political or religious statement and drop them somewhere around the pacific, let them fight it out there.
