Thinking of going to Dubai for anniversary, but know nothing about the place and the brochures are baffling, so can anyone help, need advice on a beech hol in Dubai?

I've been 6-7 times and love the place. It won't suit everyone, but where does? My Mrs owns a travel agents so if you want to talk to someone who's actually been give her a try. She'll always try and match any prices you might have got from tinternet etc and it'll be a protected package unlike most off the internet! Plug over...

A word of caution.. if your Mrs likes shopping keep a tight hold of the credit cards, the shopping Malls are something else!

It's just a great big building site... lovely hotels though!

Stayed at the Jebel Alley Hotel, not on the new palm but back on the actual coast. Has its own golf course if your interested in that....

Also stayed at the Dubai Marine Beach Resort + Spa

Highly recommend both of them. Second one was closer to the centre, as Jebel Alley is half an hour taxi or so away from Dubai...... Both are lovely places to go though. Out of the 2 again, Dubai Marine Beach Resort + Spa

Avoid going at any religious holidays.... it was awkward going at Rammadam

As I recall the local population divides between very very rich and very poor --- remind you of any Arab countries that have been in the news recently ?

The company I work for is based in Jebel Ali, which is about 15 miles down the coast from Dubai Centre.

I can recommend the Jumeira Rotana has a good bar with excellent pub grub or the holiday Inn on Sheik Zayed Rd bit posher and more expensive. The Jebel Ali Beach Resort is good but a bit pricey.

Things to do

Take the big red bus tour - well worth the money and lets you see most of Dubai

Take a Dhow Dinner Cruise on the Creek good value but avoid the 150 dollar bottles of wine

Bags of good places to eat. No problem getting a drink but don't drink in public or be drunk on the streets.

Do not argue with the police, they have no sense of humour.

Taxis are reasonable price, nearly all Indian or Pakistani drivers but some of them do not have a clue where they are going

It is starting to get hot now and will go to 45 plus in the summer.

As said avoid Ramadan, as you will not find anything open twhere you can eat during daylight and alcohol is frowned on.

If you have any young teenage females in the family beware!

Young sheiks chasing all the time AND very dangerous. My cousins daughter nearly fell foul!!!!

Spot on Scootz, I have been every year for the last 11 years and have watched (in Awe) at it growing. I have never stayed at the Beach though always stayed either city centre or Green community. I like it though and will go back later this year. Get along to the shan souk for the fakes.

We stayed at the shereton jumaria beach for our honeymoon

AMAZING

food was very good, and very well priced - especially room service...it was our honeymoon

View wasn't bad either

We did a 4x4 dune tour which was cool, shopping was no different to London or any big city/mall IMO - same shops so dont waste your time.

Building everywhere was a problem if you went out of hotel, but we didnt do that much, private beach, nice pool, lawn, beach huts, amazing on site restaurant...why leave?

Could never afford to do it again, and not been abroad since.
