Hi all,

Im back tinkering with my pride n joy (2.0 standard pinto with R1 carbs) and i just cant get my head around fueling. i've searched and found some good tips on how to adjust the fuel mixture at idle and then all the jetting etc for fueling at higher revs, but i cant seem to figure out how to check if each cylinder is getting the correct afr.

I've read in other posts some people used a wideband meter, etc but how do you know which cylinder has the weak/rich mixture? i mean the wideband can tell you its lean but one cylinder might be very rich and the other three lean or whatever, right?.

I tried to check this with the colortune but havent been too successful as the engine sometimes pops quite badly (im almost 100% sure its cos its lean and the timing may be a bit too advanced, its at 6deg btdc on tickover)

i havent changed the main jets yet and i think the needle clips are in the original settings for the bike the carbs were once fitted to. carbs are balanced and it pops randomly, however it does seem to run fine (it pulls nicely and doesnt hesitate at revs and keeps its water temp steady).

any ideas on how i can check the fueling in each cylinder?

You would need an AFR for each exhaust port
The usual way is to balance the carbs will a vacuum meter so they all draw the same air, if the jets and needles are the same then setting AFR with 1 Lambda in the exhaust collector will be good enough

oh ok i get it... only in idle would there be a difference then (which is where the colortune comes in)

I think i need to pull the carbs apart

11 Oct 2006 - conversion as possible and shop around for most of the parts, all you need to buy from Bogg Brothers is an inlet manifold. A full set of R1 carbs.
