Zetec Silvertop Alternator Options
the_big_1 - 8/9/20 at 06:22 PM

Hi Guys,

So I am up to fitting an alternator to my engine rebuild.
I don't have a bracket or anything so open to mountings etc, happy to make my own if needed.
What alternators are a good fit, correct pully type etc to go for.
Is there a good option to look out for?

You can fit anything you like. What you need to decide is what you want the alternator to do. What electrics are you running?
When you know those things then the choice is easier.

Cheers
Mike

Hi ya,

Max will be engine, not sure on current of it and fuel pump. Head lamps will be approx 10 A. So 40 A ups should be fine.

Cheers!

Atleast 50 or 60 amps or so particularly if you choose a small battery as injectors and fuel pump take more power than you think and Ford engines need a bit of umph from the starter.

Hi ya,

Yeah I am happy with 50 or 60A

I think you will find that 40 amps is ample, but then what do I know

im running a 40A denso type unit from Starterman. Running ITB's, so got 2 fuel pumps, injectors, also heated screen and a small battery too. Never had a issue even in the dark with lights on full. Great little compact unit. Made my own brackets.

Just another thing to say too, make sure your loom etc all run directly off the alternator and not the battery. The only lead from the alternator to the battery should be the one to charge it. Then the battery is not constantly having power taken from it when running.

+1 I also have a little Denso unit. Mine was destined for a Kubota digger before I bought it. either 35 or 40 amps, very easy to connect and works great. I have a heater, lights, wipers etc. No need for anything bigger.

All sounds good, what options are there for a multi V belt alternator?

ttalps2000 - 9/9/20 at 08:49 AM

Starterman has all the pulleys etc and will fit the correct one for you

I have a brand new alternator here at work, not reconditioned, off a brand new engine, its just a little bigger than I need. Damn diesel engines loo

starterman - 9/9/20 at 08:57 AM

I don't sell reconditioned units, they are new.

the_big_1 - 9/9/20 at 09:01 AM

What options have you got.
Will have to put this alternator on ebay, to big me thinks lol

starterman - 9/9/20 at 10:00 AM

Any part numbers on the alternator?
