Hi all
I do not have alloy tig welder to shorten my alloy sump ( 1.8 Silver top ). Am l correct that the black top have steel sump? Does anyone know If the
bottom of the block fixing are the same than l can modify the steel as l can weld steel.
As far as I can remember yes a steel sump fits
If you are cutting the bottom off it needs to be cut slanted to the top part that bolts to the block .
This way the bottom off it the sump is straight with the chassis and the rocker cover
From what I can remember you may need a steep pick up pipe to alter

I am sure someone will be along that know more then me
Thanks Graham for your reply all l did to know was if the fixing holes on the bottom of the block were matching.
Thanks again for other information.

The black top sump is in two parts. The steel sump is only a small portion of the sump. There is also a large aluminium windage assembly between the
block and the steel sump.
I believe the alloy sump on the silver top is one piece so you're going to need more than the steel part.
Im very sorry the steel sump I altered was to fit a 2l black top but I can’t remember if the sump came of a black top or a silver top engine maybe
off a different model Ford car

Here's what the sump looks like and me altering the windage assembly to have more fixing points for the Type 9 bell housing
