Hi Alan
No, I am having problems too, and I have a supposedly 'sooper dooper speed' broadband connection
I have only noticed it this last week though!

So Chris was telling me the other day (and as I said in another thread) he seems to think there's some sort of database issue screwing with
things.
It seems a lot better today than the last couple of days so maybe he's working on it?

There's a database issue that I'm working on that has occured since I switched over to the SMP kernel on this server. Going to update
MySQL tonight/tomorrow and hope that fixes it!

Double bah here too
It seemed ok at first, then after browsing for a few minutes, the pages just 'got stuck' as they were loading.
I tried Neds tip on hitting F5, it just took the 'progress bar' back to the start, but worked on the 3rd 'hit'.

Aaargh. Several times now I am writing my usual long-winded responses and the darn post submit times-out on. Then I hit the back button and my
insightful and pertinent comments are gone...
Should I be taking a hint?
No, really, the site is super slow, somtimes pages never load and I simply give up and get back to work...

steve,
just in case, why not highlight and copy (ctrl+c) your response before attempting to submit it, then you won't have to re-type it if it hangs!
Irritating I know.

It's strange you say that - it runs superbly from here (1MBit broadband) and work. Anyone else get the same problem?
I see the database problem isn't fixed - I'll do some more investigation.

Chris, I have the 1MB broadband too. The other internet sites I visit and browse on are fine, so I really don't think its an intermittant fault
with my ISP, it just seems to be on this site after I have been browsing for a few minutes.
I have read somewhere that this Novag virus is slowing some sites down, could this be a factor?

I don't think it has anything to do with bandwidth. I am sitting on a big fat pipe and only having troubles with locostbuilders. It's been
getting progressively worse over the past week.
FWIW - Did you just recently upgrade to a new version of Apache? I recently upgraded one of my servers from 1.3 and the machine responded much slower.
I re-installed 1.3 and it works great now.

running 576 Kbps and having the same problem, site stalling and having to refresh every now and again. thought it was the missus downloading her 6000
emails but guess not.
Noticed that it seems to get worse the more people are browsing. This after noon around 40 odd people (30 mem, 10 guest) were on and it was really
slow, almost every page needed refreshing to load it. This evening doesn't seem so bad, and less people are surfing (19mem, 13 guest)
dunno if this helps???

Same here, it's timing out on me sometimes if I don't stop and refresh it. I'm going back to dialup soon while we get the job
sorted out here as I have fallen out with Freeserve. I'm going to look at a different supplier freedom2surf.
yours, Pete.

I just found out that MS recommend defragging a SQL Database on a regular basis.
At work we had issues with all the 120 odd sites we have and that turned out to be the issue!

I rolled back to the normal (ie non SMP) kernel on the server earlier this evening which seems to have fixed the refresh problem for me. As for the
site being sluggish - I've never seen it here. All pages load within 2-3 seconds.
Load average on the server is low...
12:08am up 4:52, 1 user, load average: 0.10, 0.11, 0.09
Perhaps this is an international connectivity issue?? The server has a 100MBit feed straight out onto Easynet's Tier 1 backbone so I
can't see bandwidth being the issue.

I'm still having problems exactly as described some pages don't load at all. If you refresh a couple of times they work. Interestingly not
just sections or topic pages but also Post Reply etc.
