A good Scots tongue...

So.

Which of our brethren from south of the border can hear what this fine chap is actually saying ?

He speaks finest machine gun delivery nedspeak, so the delivery may tax some of the less experienced weegieologists among you.

Nevertheless, have a go. I feel sure that you will learn some of the finer points of the Glesgy patois by studying the works of this great orator.

If you feel capable, you might wish to provide a translation.

Anyway, come ahead.

Personally, I couldn't give a toss about the game.
It was the little special word he managed to squeeze in practically unnoticed.

I dont think it was deliberate, nor was the editor deliberate in its inclusion!! I didnt spot it first time round.

I bet you wouldn't say that to his face (or forehead, as it would rapidly become )

You reckon ?

Up here the 'C' word is used almost like a form of punctuation.

In this case, immediately preceded by the words, "Ya shower a useless" before the word in question, I should imagine.

I had a saltire hanging in my office in Sarajevo. My language assistant who shared the room with me (a young Serb chap) took great amusement in hanging a St George's Cross next to it.

Next time I was downtown I went and bought a Turkish flag and fired that up on the wall on my return. I'll never forget the look on his face... priceless!

Without a word being spoken, he took down the St Georges Cross and I took down the Turkish flag... neither was ever seen again!

You know, saying "hoose" like that could be seen as racialist, and not at all the way your country should be seen by the outside world.

May "Scots Wa Hae" be played by a piper band for a week in your house. Or if you can't find one nearby, a good recording of it by the "Real McKenzies".

How can hoose ....(phonetic spelling) dialect for HOUSE be in any way 'racialist' or in 'proper' English, racist ? .........

FWIW I have just been speaking to my cousin who just happens to live in Canada (emigrated 45 years ago), and asked him what
you have said as to 'hoose' being a racist remark............like me, he did not have a clue either ....

Tut Tut Fozzie... you're clearly not up to date with all that's current in the Diversity-World!

A Racist Incident is defined as:

"...any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person."

Therefore, if you use the word 'hoose' and RK perceives it to be racist, then IT IS racist!

Naughty naughty Fozzie...

No No no Scootzie .... a house(hoose) is an object, it, in itself, cannot think or feel, and as such has no opinion, and as such, is therefore without prejudice.

So therefore, a third party cannot be seen to take the assumption as to, or, as to not, in the afore mentioned context, be presumed that the case is as such.

In such case, the presumption of assumption, is thus null and void ....
