I took all my paperwork to DVLA nottingham 8 days ago. Cheques cleared on Wednesday. Not heard anything yet and they won't even look to see
where the application is up to until 10 days have passed.
Any idea how long it takes to hear from them regarding the DVLA inspection?

I just can't believe it.. I sent everything off all receipts V5C and just had a call from the DVLA the original chassis invoice does not state
the chassis was new and un-used as required to issue an age releated plate... It was built and stress tested by a university but I have to get it in
writing....

just get creative in "word"
and make a certificate/letter to confirm new.
I'm having similar trouble, but after I ranted at them today, I got a call back to say I was right all along. Still not got a reg or tax, but
said if not by 1st October I will start official complaint. Now got direct phone number for contact in dvla and things seem to be moving forward.
Although nothing is crossed, its just a waiting game.

How long was it from posting to getting a call from them?
I hadn't heard anything by 10 days so called them yesterday. They now won't look into it or anything until 14 days so said call back
Thursday.

That should be obvious Dave; the declaration of newness document clearly states that the chassis requires a receipt/proof of age.

So what does this mean??
I assume as I built my own chassis I will just have to write a statement saying I built my own chassis?

Technically if you build your own you can only get a Q (or brand new if everything else is new (one recon'd to as new etc).
Many have managed to get a self built chassis on to an agew related plate though.
heres the wording:
A vehicle will retain its donor registration mark if either the original unmodified chassis or unaltered monocoque bodyshell and two other major
components are used. If a new monocoque bodyshell or chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer is used (or an altered chassis or bodyshell
from an existing vehicle) together with two major components from a donor vehicle, an age related mark will be assigned. The mark will be based on the
age of the donor vehicle. An IVA, ESVA, SVA or MSVA test will be required to register the vehicle.
Where there are insufficient parts from a donor vehicle or in cases where the original registration mark is unknown, an IVA, ESVA, SVA or MSVA
certificate will be required to register the vehicle and a 'Q' prefix registration number will be allocated.
The above wording is no longer shown on the DVLA website but it should still be the case.

Pretty much. Attaching receipts for the steel would help.
Logically, it should be self evident though. If it wasn't new, then it wouldn't have a new VIN (supplied by them in many cases) and would
already be registered... but that might require common sense.

The lady today when I spoke to her said they need a certificate of newness to get an age related plate..... I have a chassis number that was allocated
by the DVLA but this did not count... It was also stated that a £3000 receipt for chassis, panels etc seemed cheap for a new chassis so gave them some
doubts it was new... Not sure how much hey expect a seven chassis to cost... When I questioned the concern again I was referred back to the
certificate of newness...

This got me thinking last night about what is actually needed so I sent the DVLA a great big long email explaining I will soon be looking for an age
related plate for my haynes roadster built from a single donor, but with a new chassis/body. The reply I got was :-
Dear Dr Murray
Thank you for your email received on 26/9/13. Your email reference number is 1532201.
It may help to explain that the below documents we require to register you kit conversion vehicle.
Documentation required for registration: -
V55/5
V5C (if donor vehicle is used)
ID(Photocopies are acceptable)
1st Registration Fee
Fee for road tax
MOT (if applicable)
Insurance
IVA/SVA/MSVA Certificate
Receipts for any new or second hand parts.
V627/1 ‘Built up Vehicle Inspection Report’ to be completed before inspection.
Please send your application to MASET Team, DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1ZZ.
Please allow up to 10 working days to receive tax disc and supporting documents.
A V5C Registration Certificate will then be sent within 6 weeks.
I hope this information helps.

They give you a certificate to take to the plate maker, Halfords in my case, I was passing on the way from DVLA. Honest!

Cheque not cashed yet so looks like October 1st is not going to happen.... :-(. .. It was easier building it than registering it! Can't help
but think Vosa and the DVLA function would be better combined and save so much money for the tax payer... Everything the DVLA want to know could be
verified at inspection...

Well almost legal first drive tonight.... Rear plate fitted but have the usual challenge finding a place to mount the front plate... Didn't
check but probably did about 10 miles in the dark tonight which was abitious for the first drive but all went pretty well... Once the brakes got hot I
had a very slightly squeaky rear hand brake.... Map certainly needs sorting with pickup issues... Other jobs to do are look at the robustness of the
headlight mounts because I'm getting a bit of vibration through to the lights.....
All in all very happy bunny!
