DIY Dry sump

I was flicking thought Practical performance magazine at the weekend and found an interesting article on building your own dry sump. With lots of pictures. Don’t know if it is of interest to any one on hear but worth a look. I might be able to scan it if it is of interest.

Sorry but time for a PPC mag promo!! (no connection) I have subscribed to this mag and it is without doubt the best car mag out there now.

BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave Walker, tech ed formerly of CCC mag, writes a lot for it, and it is full of diy Techy stuff, megasquirt etc etc plus stuff like one of the contributors (who I know through the Opel Manta Owners Club) who has built a Rolls Royce 27 Litre Meteor engined Rover SD1!!!!!!

A friend of mine also owns the white Opel Manta 16v that was featured this month (it's just like my old one, brough back memories, although mine had a lot more power!!!)

I echo those comments - top mag. I now prefer it to the kit car mags who seem to pre-occupied running old articles and slagging each other off.

PPC is full of articles on the things that us petrol heads want to know about. Interesting article on buying a sub £5k TVR this month as well. I think next month they are testing seven se7ens - cant wait. The best £3odd that i spend every month.

Just popped out in my lunch hour and bought a copy - most impressed.

Now everyone stay here while i go and nab that oil pump off eBay....

I haven't read the article yet- (come one someone, get the scanner running! ) but I was wondering if there's a car that uses an external oil pump.

I have access to some gears to make my own pump if i machine a housing for them but was hopeing for a ready done example sitting in a scrappy!

Cheers,
James

Much as I trust in my fabrication skills, ( ) there is no way a pump I make is gonna have as good clearances or be as reliable a one designed for a 200Kmile road car!

And if you meant buy a dry sump kit- no thanks! IIRC Pace want something like £600 for a kit!

Oh I see!

I was intending to buy it anyway, but I spent lunchtime asleep in my car** instead of going to buy it and wanted something to read to get me through the afternoons tedium!

Right, PPC website is:

http://www.ppcmag.co.uk/ but telephone number for subscriptions is wrong, should be: 01780 758800.

I spoke to Will who took my details for a subscription, they're off this week to do the seven 7's article and I made sure to plug this site and told him to check it out as we all love the mag, Will I hope you've found this!!

Cheers,

Ned.

They can consider me a convert after a couple of years reading the kit car mags and becoming increasingly pissed of with them it is refreshing to fined something where they undertake projects that are both interesting and useful. Other than just covering a build witch wile informative has been done a lot now for most kits.

So one subscription for me I think.

I used to be a pretty avid CCC reader, and whilst it was good when Nigel Fryatt and Steve Bennett were editors, it went downhill fast after that and it was no surprise that it went bust.

I think PPC has filled the void that CCC left when Steve Bennett left to go to Circuit Driver.

A brilliant mag, lets hope it starys that way. I have emailed Will at PPC about doing a grasstrack racing feature in their grass-roots motorsport series and he was keen, once the summer sets in and the racing is good look out for it!!

yep the mags good.

I think that the article about cheap dry sumping (about two months ago)in the mag maybe based on the info gleened from this site anymway.

'O'Welly' sent them a bit of info on some ideas we were having, and discussed on an earlier thread.

We were kind of hoping they might have some other ideas to add to them, and come back with tried and tested ways of doing it.

Haven't bought any kit car mags for about five months ,that is the same time that I found out about PPC.
Excellent Mag,a bit like CCC was a few years ago.
It seems to cater for everything I'm interested in,and a lot of cars I have had in the past,Firenza 2300,240z,escort mk1,924,MGB and midgets,OH now I feel
old!!!!

Once I've finished a project why do I start another?
