Most of your chassis will be made from 1.5mm or 1.6mm material, and mostly using corner welds.
Oh yes - get some 3mm plate as well, and try welding 3mm to 1.6mm. That'll test your skills, getting a good weld pool on the 3mm without going
through the 1.6mm.

cheers, ill ask for those then  think ill test out my auto darkening mask aswell when i can be bothered to put a plug on the extension lead
ill leave out the beer hat till the summer i think
