Budget double what you think. But any problems, and there is bound to be somebody essentially down the road from you. There are no reasons not to in
the UK, several not to here, but I didn't really listen...

thanks guys for all your suggestions and help.
I think after a weekend of thinking about it, an unfinished project is probably going to be the way I go. Ebay is obviously going to be my first
place to look, but are there any other good places that unfinished cars get sold from?

You could also try Pistonheads and also the various make specific sites around. List the cars you are interested in and we can point you in the
direction of the particular forums of interest.

There is also Pistonheads Classifieds

Pro's - loads....... performance, the noise, light weight, sequential gearchange.
Con's.......... well the CEC boys are jellous so will try to convince you that you need a reverse gear!!!
here we go again..........

A reverse gear does sound handy.

No need for reverse. They just add unnecessary weight. If you haven't been for a passenger ride in a BEC, try and get one. Then decide which
bike engine you want.
With regards to the pro's and con's;
Pro’s
1 Performance - Standard bike engine and gearbox = more bhp/kg than your standard car engine and gearbox (in most cases) which makes for awesome
acceleration
2 Superb noise
3 Advanced Technology. How many normally aspirated 1,200cc car engines do you know that produce 180 Bhp?
4 Lightweight & compact= Easier to handle and no need for special lifting gear
5 Mechanically, they are easier to maintain. Clutch changes etc
6 Cheaper Vehicle Excise Duty (Tax, to you and me)
7 Far cheaper import tax (In case you ever consider emigrating to somewhere like……… Cyprus)
8 Smaller & easier to clean – therefore more environmentally friendly
9 You get a better choice of jacket to wear and apparently they look great with shorts (According to DarrenW)
Con’s
1 Standard bike engine is likely to be more expensive than your standard car engine
1a Can’t think of any more

But you get a 6 spd sequential close ratio gearbox, ECU and carbs / throttle bodies free so when doing your sums factor this in!! I spent £700 or so
on a BGH type 9 gearbox on my old Zetec car. You could get a Yamaha R1 for that!! Then again you could get a standard type 9 for very little. As above
though - get a ride in each if you can and then decide which bike engine you want

With the SVA replacement test coming in soon you MAY?? need a reverse gear to pass.
