is that the old rover v8 motor? if so you can use r380 box, or the lt77
r380 is the strongest/best

which car/van does the lt77 derive from then?
Its a 95 Landrover Discvovery V8 3.9 that it need to marry up to.
It needs to be one without the transfer box so non 4 wheel drive one!

the lt77 comes from the rover sd1 , and many sherpa vans, the r380 comes from landrover 4x4 it can be adapted to 2wd but its costly

so the r380,.. is it just a case of replacing the transfer box with the tail housing from a normal rear wheel drive box?

Is the engine out of a manual or an automatic.
if manual then you can use the lt77
if Automatic then all you need a new flywheel and a SPIGOT bearing for the crank shaft end.
You can also get bellhousings to fit a ford T5 gearbox or a type9 ( will not last long )

Its not just as easy as whipping off the TX box and plugging on a manual tail shaft, also Landrovers have very long bell housings, better to source an
LT77, the early ones were a bit weaker, they updated and called it an LT77s this has a ribbed casing.
LT77 is the distance between mainshaft and layshaft centres, S is for strong, good old BL, R380 is designed to take 380ft/lb torque, its a better box.
As above search for leyland vans, and ambulances.
You could always go auto, the last of the racing SD1's used autoboxes!

Hello
I sourced everything from crank to prop from Dave Ellis at DJE http://www.djev8.co.uk/
- lightened flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, recon LT77, spigot - the lot, as I was coming off an auto box - ex Range Rover engine. Knowledgable and
very helpful and a lovely bloke, but not a very Locost way of doing it.... lots of other RV8 stuff too.
Getting the LT77 into the Viento tunnel and far enough back is a bit of a game - U2U me if you want to discuss !
Best of luck
Simon

I have a LT77 in mine and it does the job, never let me down. Only real criticism would be the ratios which I do not believe can be changed (happy to
be corrected).
My set up - 3.9 - LT77 - 3.68 diff - 225/50/15 tyres
gear ratio calculator
1 (3.321) 35.2mph
2 (2.087) 56.1mph
3 (1.396) 83.8mph
4 (1) 117mph
5 (0.792) 147.7mph
As our cars do not weigh as much as a 2ton landrover (hopefully), the first gear in particular is far too short.
If doing this now, I would be looking at the T5 (link to manufacturer website + service
manual)
With this gearbox there are kits available to alter the gear ratios.
Regards
Kevin
