SVA Form - Design Weights - I'm confused!

Hi All.

Quick question!!

Just filling in my SVA form, from trailing through previous posts in the forum, I was expecting to need the "design weights" for my MK Indy.

But whilst it says you need to complete Question 15 if you are classing the car as "Class A" - Amatuer Built, but when you get to question 15 - it says you only need to answer this question if you have a goods vehicle!

So Am I correct in saying I dont need to fill question 15 in??

Thanks as allways - Kevin

I think you have to give maximum axle weights, just like any production car has too

When did you apply for SVA? Just thinking whether the form may have changed since you applied perhaps? My SVA1 form has a july 2008 date on the first page...

Yes, the form and the notes contradict each other. You need to fill it in though.

Put 450, 450, 900 or 500,500,1000

Its not used for anything on the test (brake weights calculations are different).

Max speed is just to chack the tyre ratings against.

T up to 118mph
H up to 130mph
V up to 140mph
W up to 168mph

As long as your max is less than the tyres your ok.

adrian

ps. they won't believe 90!

there was something about this in kitcar mag a month back or so. The guy put his top speed as 100mph but because his tyres carried a 99mph top speed rating (not sure what letter that is?), it failed on having incorrect speed rated tyres. He had to re-apply and edit the top speed on his form as 98mph with the 99mph rated tyres still on. Passed straight away.

How ghey?

Whats a realistic top speed for a locost? I thought with the aerodynamics they wouldn't go that fast top end? 120?

My tyres are Toyo Proxes, so wont be a prob as I seem to think they are Z rated..

I put 115 as my top speed as the tyres used for build up had a 118 MPH rating. Passed no probs. The speedo showed 122 MPH at silverstone at the red line in top gear and it was still gaining speed, but not much.

I don't understand why you would lie about the top speed to save a few quid on tyres and if your car does indeed go faster than your tyres are rated for then for God sake fit the right ones.
Its not just top speed its acceleration and braking + lateral forces and whilst our cars are generally a lot lighter than the doner, we drive them a lot harder especialy on the track.

I didn't exceed the speed rating of the tyres I had on at SVA (by a good margin). I now have nice toyos on my car which were bought with an eye on occasional track use.

Yes you need to fill it in, did mine a few week back and put 450/450.

It does clearly say tho on question 15 'we need the design weights for all goods vehicles AND all VEHICLES in classes A, C, S and L.'
'A' being amateur build of course.

And yes i did miss it myself and nearly sent the forms off with it blank

Cocked up on my form, put 430 front, 420 back but gross as 560 which is the actual weight. Letter from VOSA says insufficient supporting documentation to progress as amateur built vehicle. They have asked again for additional photocopies of receipts for the major components of the vehicle. I have already sent them verified receipts for the donor vehicle, steel tube for the chassis and suspension, Cortina uprights, different engine and wheels. Should I send a letter to say exactly what came off the donor vehicle and a copy of the log book? They have also asked for photos of the build which I will do but I would have thought receipts going back 11 years, some that have DVLA stamps from the Police inspection prior to the issuing of the chassis number, were evidence of a home build! Never mind, must keep them happy.
