Not got one but helped to build one. Go for the 3.38 diff if you can and then look for a set of 13" wheels with 185/60/13 tyres (maybe 205/60/13 on the rear if you fancy a little more grip). We piked up a set of old Ford alloys that came out quite nicely for a very good price with a few cans of paint and a large tub of elbow grease - have a look at 001Ben's pics

maybe go for 195/50/15's then - seems to be a good choice of tyres in that size such as Toyo R888's etc. This will give a similar overall diameter to the 60 profile 13's anyway and should suit the gearing of the R1 with a 3.38 diff. What brakes are you going with? Sierra rear disks will probably push you towards the 15's anyway.

Run the figures for you. With a 195/50/15 tyre, the 3.62 diff gives 122mph max speed, the 3.38 gives 130mph max speed. Definately go for a 3.38 if you can get one then.

A lot of people like the 15" for looks.
- Depends on budget, WSCC havea group buy on 13" race wheels which made them quite a lot cheaper.

Otherwise old ford capri wheels seams to be going for £50 a set all over the place.
- Im then looking at Yoko A048's tyres, possably the cheaper Toyo R888's

Cant help really, but thats might thoughts.

Just to put another element into the equation...

Other than cost (ignore for now), is there any reason why you wouldn't have 13" for the track and then change to 15" for the road and looks? I'm thinking geometry setup, toe, camber, ride height etc. Would it make big differences to those?

If you choose tyres with the same overall diameter (within a few mm) there is no real reason why you can't mix n match.

The only difference you may notice is the unsprung weight and it's gyroscopic effect through the steering. But obviously that depends on there being a noticeable weight difference between the 13" and 15" wheel/tyre combination.

too right...

Capri laser wheels, powdercoated matt black, toyo 888's...

When i bought my tyres, about 8 months ago, 888's were considerably cheaper than a048r's (which was my first choice).
