Zetec SE - like this one?

Should be a very easy fit - plenty have fitted bigger engines. Nice choice of engine btw

The type 9 isnt very wide at all so cant see it being an issue. I'm sure someone will confirm specifically for the Ron Champion chassis shortly.

I dont think the Type 9 will fit in a standard Book chassis, easily fixed with a angle grinder and re-welded.

which zetec? escort or focus

escort one will bolt to a t9 but why not go 2litre and rs1800 cams.

focus one will need a new bellhousing as the bolt pattern is different

might be worth measuring across the transmission tunnel then and popping the numbers up. No doubt someone will have a type 9 who can measure the width behind the bell housing

I can confirm a type9 fits in a standard Champion "book" chassis quite easily.

It's the Zetec[1] that's a tight fit

Hi

Type nine isn't too big a problem. The engine however is taller and ideally requires the chassis sides to be raised an inch.

The all alloy Zetec SE is a much smaller engine though - more like the Toyota 4-age in size than the taller 1.8 / 2.0 Zetec's. The bellhousing is on Shawspeed's website linked to earlier - just not so sure they are still trading. There is another company doing stuff for the Zetec SE isnt there??

Try a search for info - i know i have seen someone on here with this engine

You will be looking at a specialist policy and you might well find the engine size doesnt actually make that much difference. Even so, i would rather pay a bit more on insurance for a couple of years and build the car how i want it rather than just to reduce the insurance costs (and it may cost you more in the long run trying to fit a less common engine)

Try a search for insurance for under 25's on here and maybe ask what premiums the under 25's are paying - i'm sure most will happily tell you

try 1.4 cvh then you can change to the much nicer and tougher zetec e eventually
my personal opinion. although im think of building a chassis to take a 3.2 5 cyl tdci transit engine.

I have a type 9 box in my standard chassis - it's positioned to that the back face of the bellhousing is about 1cm away from the chassis uprights.

There's a fair bit of room all around in the tunnel.
