Rallying a Mk2 Escort on Saturday - how do i drive?

So, I'm off with a Finnish car nut to drive a MK2 RS2000 rally prep'd escort on Saturday. Its her 30th birthday present from me.

Considering this is a classic car & she's Finnish therefore has a natural ability to drive sideways, loves rallying do I
a) drive it like I stole it hoping to fluke being faster than her
b) drive it like I own it saying things like "this is a classic car, i refuse to do 7000rpm, the poor pinto canny take it?"
c) give the afternoon session to one of you lot as you'll appreciate the gorgeous car and quite pretty company more?

If its a rally school just listen to the instructors, don't try and go faster than the women it don't work. We used to laugh at the fella's trying to go quicker than their GFs, sisters or mums.. usually they were slower because the women LISTEN to what the instructors say!! It is funny when a group of lads find out a 60yo gran was 1 of the quickest by the end of the day

If it's not the above drive it like ya stole it and avoid any hard objects

Everyone knows that a car that isn't yours, handles the best. Take hire cars for instance, nothing is quite so satisfying as wheel spin in a hire car.

As your only likely to get the one chance at driving the car, I'd thrash hell out of it. Worst case, they ask you to get out of the car, extinguish the fire, make your way back up embankment and go home

As above - relax, enjoy it and listen to the instructors!

I used to instruct years ago and it was the ones who didn't want to listen ended up being the slowest!

Phew for a moment I thought you might have been taking part in the Malcolm Wilson Rally - about 12 miles from us this coming Saturday- and leaving it a bit late for a few tips from the experts

I'm voting for option A give it some stick and enjoy!

Option C is a bit risky on this forum... Although if the donor car is donated then £250 is one step nearer to realism!

Dunno, but if there wasn't a Mrs MikeR you could do worse than betting dinner that you can beat her time. Either way, you can't lose!

Unless there is a Mrs MikeR and you get caught...

What a brilliant prezzie!

a, b, or c ? ......none of them

Just listen to your instructor/briefing session, and drive to the best of your ability, whilst enjoying yourself.

I will never forget my ARDS instructor telling me that he likes instructing women, because they actually do listen and learn, rather than guys who always think that they 'know best'......

If you try to out-do her, you may just come unstuck....
You will both find your strong and weak points.....

Just enjoy the day.......

Yeah ok, I'm chuffed I've sorted out a (hopefully) excellent present and I get to do something I've wanted to try for ages.

I'll post pics on Sunday once the hangover has subsided (post rally its meal and then as many cocktails as we can manage).

I'm utterly convinced i won't go faster than her - but this is due to power / weight ratios as i'm obviously a lot heavier. Also i've got bigger feet and can't get on the pedals properly. Plus as its her birthday present i want her to win and ..... (more excuses would be handy).

grrrr

grrrrr

and

grrrrr

Apart from the systematic destruction of 3 classic ford escorts.

Apart from the cheating by my finnish friend (who got best hand brake turn and best driver of the day).

It was a damned fun day. I was completely awful and useless but the 200bhp full rally prep escort looked nice (we could only have passenger rides in that) and the special being built with an S200 engine and watts link looked fab.

Pics to follow.
