hope it works out for you. I'm just not sure if my car will be ready to be presented at the test at all. I'm just hoping to do the bare minimum to get a test but this all depends on the electrics. I have a bad feeling that the ecu wont like the flywheel (with integrated trigger wheel) that I have fitted. SVA 24th!!

Had mine booked for yesterday (15th) but realised the day before the car was no where ready for the test - ie, the engine was not running!

Phoned them the day before to explain my situation expecting to be told they were fully booked and I would need to do the IVA when the lady on the phone said they had a space on 22nd april!!! so I booked it. Now the hard work continues...

Me. But I don't think I will be able to present mine

When my chassis was modified to take the R1 engine, the wiring was contracted out to an autoelectrician, who has messed up and caused a severe short in the loom. My SVA is next thursday! Still haven't heard from the autoelectrician who was meant to be contacting me. So the wiring won't probably be done.

Engine not running, rear brakes not attached and handbrake not on, rear lights not connected as are most of the panels. Hmm, not good at all

I am trying to think of a really good excuse to tell the SVA centre, I need an extra fortnight at least!

We are, SVA booked for Friday 24th in Norwich.

Should be ready, just need to set the engine up, fill the diff, fit a gaitor to the hand brake lever and finish polishing it and apply the stripes (which are probably only temporary as we do not have time to paint it).

Your opinions please, should we use 1,2 or 3 stripes, central or to one side?

There are a few other pics in archive.

Me too, had my sva booked for 14th april, spent the last few weeks working round the clock to get some where near completing the build, but the engine hadn't been run at all, but was hoping the tester would test the stuff he could and fail it on the bits he couldn't.

Long story short, he refused to test it due to lack of running engine, we tried to get it going there but found a couple of terminal fuel leaks which put a stop to it

Dont have the time really or the energy to try and rush it in the next week or so even if a vacancy come up, so its IVA for me

a few pics....

Well I tried to book my SVA at the beginning of the month, knowing full well that I wouldn't get it all done in time, but allowing for 6 months in which to finish it - plenty of time!

But I called and they said thy weren't taking any SVA bookings from 1st April, but the IVA wouldn't take effect until the 29th April. When I questioned this and asked why there was an interim period, I was told "It's just the way it is, we can't do anything." And no news of IVA waiting list as yet, which was an added bonus.

Decided to send an "I'm rather disappointed" e-mail to VOSA, all I got back was a waffling e-mail telling me it's been passed on to someone for a more detailed answer, and a link to draft IVA document. That was over 2 weeks ago, still awaiting a reply....

SVA on 24th. Car has run, but isn;t currently starting due to a fuel pump issue.

Got a few wiring glitches, but nothing that won't be sorted.

Still got a list with 44 jobs left on it, ranging from fitting the handbrake gator to fitting the passenger seat to getting road legal tyres fitted to my wheels. Nothing too big really, but lots of them!

Having no job is suddenly a good thing! As is having a very understanding wife.

I have a few extra cosmetic things which I won't now bother doing unless I get a load of the jobs finished ahead of schedule.

SVA on Thursday the 23rd at Norwich.

Engine ran for the first time on Wednesday. List as long as my arm to do, just trying to get it in a acceptable state to fail with honour.

Discovered a couple of electrical faults last night, so I know what I will now be doing tonight.

SVA on the 23rd down in Gillingham. starting to get worried as I dont have the weekend to work on it. Im soldier by weekends and about to dads army it up for a couple of days ( ok thats a bit harsh to me and my fellow TA members, we are an operational army now). This doesnt give me much time. Think im going to be taking wednesday and thursday off work. Hope to have it largely done by then. Major things to do are drill and mount the front wings, put in the interior panels and seats, mount the scuttle and the dash and lots of little things....

Good thing is that all my (handmade) electrics work, all the lights etc. the engine starts and runs really nicely, just a loping idle when warm. maybe over fueling as choke doesnt work. clutch and brakes work as well, just need re bleeding so looking positive for a good fail.

Despite growing pressure from family mine is only going to be used on the track so not an issue for me.

But just to please them (give the impression I'm pleasing them anyway) I'm still fitting road going lights, etc.

Finally back on the job!

Late SVA'ers, avoid "refusal to examine"

I got my fail in earlier this month (9th April), so the pressure is off. I have some paperwork (approvals and dates and stuff), and some emissions bits. So it will get sorted.

For all you LATE SVA'ers it is important that you are able to present your vehicle.

If you can't present then you can't fail. You need to fail to get a fail list, which gives you 6months to retake.

If you fail to present, then you don't get a fail, and you are heading to IVA.

Here are the instructions on this.

Refusal to examine
The examination of a vehicle may be
refused for any of the following reasons
• the vehicle is not submitted for
examination at the time and place
appointed
• the fee has not been paid
• the vehicle cannot be driven or has
insufficient fuel or oil to enable the test to
be completed
• the vehicle is presented in a dirty or
dangerous condition such as to make it
unreasonable for the examination to be
carried out
• a load or items on the vehicle are not
secured or removed as requested
• a proper examination cannot be carried
out because any door, tailgate, boot lid,
engine cover, fuel cap or other device
designed to be readily opened cannot be
opened
• the condition of the vehicle (in the
opinion of the examiner) is such that
proper examination of the vehicle would
involve a danger of injury to any person
or damage to the vehicle or any other
property
• the vehicle does not display,
permanently, in an accessible position
and readily legible, the required vehicle
identification number
• the driver does not remain in the vehicle
or its vicinity and operate the controls,
drive the vehicle or to remove/refit
panels as requested.

So, the engine must run, it mustn't leak fuel, and you need a VIN number.

Matt

p.s. my engine wouldn't start first time around, which made me aware of these issues.
