track width/rear end choice

couple of questions in one here really......
this is my first locost i will be building and i am trying to utilise as many suzuki parts as possible. personal thing really. so i have the engine and box sorted but i am in the process of deciding what to do with the rear end. i could use a ford live axle or i have the opptunity of buying a suzuki cappuccino rear diff etc. prob with this is i would have to mod the chassis for IRS.

now further to this i want the wheels to fill the back arches as oppose to looking narrow, what is the track width of the ford live axles?

any help appreciated

Escort is 50" or maybe 52" (depends who you ask!).

Just out of interest which Suzuki engine/box? You talking a BEC or car engine?

As regards which axle- the more you deviate from the plans the longer it all takes and harder it is. IRS takes way longer and unless is setup correctly will be poor. With a live axle you can't go wrong (so easily atleast! ).

thanks james
good help there,
i'm using my spare swift gti as a donor, the G13B all ally engine is superb.

got to couple it up to a samurai/sj413/410 geearbox, bolt strait on!

been i talks with a guy from america who is using a G13B for his second build and a guy from sweden with a G13B rubo in a locost type car! pushes between 170-200 bhp depending on boost.

Just so happens we sell an IRS set-up....ie: 4x wishbones and 2x fabricated uprights.....only real snag is they are for sierra shafts/brakes etc
