How Noisy?
OK, I know this is an impossible question, but any opinions welcome.
I have Indy with 2.0 Blacktop Zetec, ZX6R carbs, Pipercross sausage filter [no holes in bonnet] & R1 can.
I'm planning on doing the Abingdon track day in July and don't want to fail the noise test. I've swapped my old Westfield can for a
standard R1 Titanium can and the car is quieter.
Short of buying a db meter I have no way of measuring, and even if I bought one from Maplins, it might not be that accurate.
Do you think it will be below 100db?

Hang on a minute, I'll get a coin to flip.... 
I'd be wary. Bike can's aren't always that quiet. Do you know what dB your car was @ SVA? You could always do a comparative test
with a cheap Maplins meter to work out the dB difference between the two cans (would mean putting the old can on first) and then take that away from
the SVA level to see if you're in the right ballpark....

At SVA it was about 94bd I think, but I had a different engine and a single carb, so any comparisons would be flawed.
The R1 can is much quieter than the Westy one.
Would exhaust wrap or under bonnet lagging help to keep noise down?

How about talking to Motorsport Events about it? You may be able to meet them at an event or their office and get it tested before hand?
All else fails, you could drive down to Goodwood, they'll always do a noise test for you.
If you're not living life on the edge you're taking up too much room.

What about ringing round a few local garages/MoT centres to see if they have a dB meter and would be happy to give you a quick check?
Alternatively, stuff a bit of wire wool up the tail pipe for the noise test and let it "fall out" between the pits and the track

could you not just fit a large car silencer? Even a baffled one would give you little in the way of back pressure

By the time I've driven to another motorsports event to get a test I'll have spend a day and a fair bit on petrol, so might as well just
risk it [and bring a load of wire wool with me].
What I was really looking for was other people who have done track days in a seven with a similar set up, and how close to the Db limit they have
been.

I went to a track day at Brands and my R1 carbon can gave a reading of 93db (1.4 K series on standard inlet manifold, etc.). Not definitive, but R1
cans have a rep for being quite quiet

Book it, you'll be fine.
My Silver top on Jenveys (with an Pipercross Airbox) and a virtually empty exhaust did 99 dB at Brands yesterday.

Ah it'll be fine! If it's dB on the move you can always slow down when you go past the noise meter (assuming you know where it is!!)...

I feel much better now.
I've just tried to book and no one answered the phone. The online booking doesn't work either - bugger. I've left a message so
hopefully they'll call back.

at parts center uk, they are selling noise meters for £18.00 so i brought one, when at sva it measured exactly the same as vosa machine, or you can
borrow mine!
