Can anyone identify with this?

Something I was emailed today :

Start with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs under it. Before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the other monkeys with very cold high-pressure water. After a while, another monkey makes an attempt with the same result-all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon, when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it.
Now, put away the cold water. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his surprise and horror, all of the other monkeys attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted. Next, remove another of the original five monkeys and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm!

Likewise, replace a third original monkey with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked. None of the monkeys that are beating him have any idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs or why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey. After replacing all the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey ever again approaches the stairs to try for the banana. Why not?

Because as far as they know that's the way it's always been done around here. And that, my friends, is how company policy begins.

Its been my experience in most of my 20+ years at work.

Its almost exactly what happened in my last co. They launched a product that bombed and heads rolled.

After that, very little was developed - it was safer for the powers that be.

So I left.

The co I work for now was bought by a competitor 6 weeks ago - any one of the 8 smileys could be inserted next

Actually, I didnt make that up. Its far too philosophical for me. I'd just swear a lot at somebody that was pi##ing me off.

It was emailed to me by someone who had been given it by a marketing consultant.

As far as the 'other' company is concerned, they are still in business, and owned by an even larger company.

My new role actually puts me developing new products for both companies. But I also have responsibilities providing tech sales support for my company which puts me in competition with our partner co that will also be selling stuff I have done.

Thats a pretty strange situation. Bit like volkswagen losing sales to skoda or seat.

My recent story is a bit different:all the other monkeys decided they didn't likethe big monkey.
All the monkeys pulled my name out of hat,I suddenly found myself at the top of the stairs eating banana.
Then suddenly someone kept dropping
piles of poo..
after finding it difficult to scream whilst sitting in poo all day I went and found another staircase to sit on for a while!

Oh yes I have had the pleasure of being my own boss in the past, for 8 years ,and the hardest boss of all to please is the one at home!
The only good thing is that after years of practice I can :a,Cover my backside
b,Handle stress like a Samaritan
c,Switch the phone off
d,Buy lots of flowers for home!

Actually, thats the way I see it too.

We have better products than the co that bought us! Prob was our previous owner managed to sell us to banks for about 2x more than we were worth. The result was the banks considered us a basket case for their investment, and the interest just kept growing. We were a profitable company, just couldnt satisfy the banks.

I lost 8,000 quid in shares too
