oh dear - maybe 3rd time lucky

had my sva retest today. started well, crossed loads of the list. Then started going down hill. Failed dash again even though padded, not quite hard enough apparently. Boiled over during speedo test, rev the knackers off it but don't provide any air flow through rad. Failed, because erratic reading and over by 1mph. Then field of view on driverside wing mirror. I could see marks but tester couldn't.

Anyway, broad shoulders so can deal with all that. What was a real gut job was the loss of a bolt from one of the front calipers on the way home. caliper dug into the wheel, cracked the wheel scrapping a brand new alloy. Only consolation is that it could have been a biggy only that it happened at low speed.

So new plan of attack under development. Need to make the cooling system actually cool the engine.

cant you hard wire the fan through a switch to allow you to run it contantly when required.

I thinking I'll do that with the fan for the test just to slow the heat up rate during the test. The fan only seems to make the slightest of impressions on the temperature though so wondering if its a more fundamental problem. Spot of investigating required.

I think that SVA re-tests run out at the end of September I may be wrong. The speedo will be OK at 1mph over but it will be the erratic reading that will fail it. Losing a bolt at low speed sounds dodgy. Good luck with the re-test, and keep going it's well worth it in the end. Barry

I hope not as I was told I have 6 months for retest(s) from my original SVA on 23rd April which makes the deadline around 23rd October
Still going through my 3 page list of fails hoping to get a retest sometime in the next few weeks.

Check your paperwork, should have an "end date".

On the fail sheets i believe.

Didnt they delay the cut off point due to issues with IVA manual?

If your paperwork says October they cant really argue can they?

My tester told me that the 6 month rule actually runs a bit longer as the end date is for applications so you could fail your test after 5 months and 30 days and as long as you put your form in the same day you will get another test.
