Hi Graham, here's what I did...
More vents!

and also cut holes directly above the headers but can't find a pic of them.

Not sure how much strength will be left in the side with the carbs.. Don't want your bonnet difforming to much...

i don't think too much will be lost. think it might look a bit odd though. unless it was filled with mesh or something obviously, which i'm sure you would.

now a naca duct on the top would look cool thats just me though...

I now the vents look good on the top of the bonnet BUT if you get a fire in the engine compartment this is were the flames will come out [in my / your face ]

Have a look at some Landrover turbo and air Grills they look nice and cheap to.
