200sx gearbox options

Hi All,
Hope everyone is having a nice time in the snow
Managed to bag myself a ca18det engine from an s13 200sx (aka 180 and 240sx), I've got a jdm eight port motor but at the moment have no gearbox. Does anybody know of gearbox's (aside from the original) that will fit this engine?

I would try and use the gearbox in my 1.6 sierra donor but not sure it will be good for the circa 200bhp (that might just increase over time) that the engine puts out.

Cheers,
Tom

I used the nissan box(s14a),fitted quite easily(don't know how different striker is to your chassis) and they're meant to handle 400+bhp if looked after.I very much doubt there are any bell housings available for other boxes so you'll have to have an adapter plate made up for the box you choose which won't be that locost iif your not able to make it yourself?

Cool, cheers for that Chris.

I can use the original box, I just wanted to see if there were cheaper viable alternatives. I just need to hunt down a cheap one now.

Cheers

the s14(a) box has closer ratios than the s13 'box that the CA18DET engine came with, but has the wrong bellhousing. The S14s use the SR20DET instead. Easy enough to swap over the bellhousings but theer are a couple of hidden circlips that will catch you out, best download the service manual form sxoc site.
essentially the s12 silvia box (FS5W71B ) is the same 'family' but an earlier, shorter box (65mm shorter, needs longer propshaft) but has identical ratios to std s13 200sx box, only the s14 boxes have the closer ratios and slightly lower 5th too.
all will work with corresponding bellhousing and prop length.
A type 9 wouldnt be up to much, i wrecked Type 9s on my hillclimber with much less than 200hp, whereas the Nissan boxes (if in good condition) will see 300-350hp max. If they are to be used hard, then use Redline H/Duty shockproof gear oil, makes a massive difference to life on hard used boxes.
also be wary of crap qucikshifters or worn std shifters, they tend to cause broken selectors on 5th/reverse if used aggressively. The B&M shifter is expensive but gorgeous to use and safeguards the selectors.
S12/S13 boxes fetch £40-£90 dependant on miles and condition, s14 boxes fetch £180-£250.
Later S14 boxes also have improved trap doors inside to prevent oil surge/starvation under hard acceleration

bellhousing are integral with main case, only tail shaft section is seperate, so there are no aftermarket bellhoisngs, just the CA18 & SR20 Nissan versions.
Oh and Quaife and HKS make bespoke sequential 6speed boxes for £7,000!!
