Zetec Valve Query
Hi,
I have taken the head off of the zetec engine now. I have removed the cam shafts.
I am assuming that once the cam shafts are removed all the valves should be closed?
So if I can see one of the valves open I have a problem?
Cheers
Frank

was it previously running? could be a broken valve spring as well as all the above, have you got the tappets out?

any visible damage to the piston or cylinder bore ?
I am aware that you mentioned the belt slipping in a previous post I would guess a bent valve

If the belt slipped and the timing was out the valve will be bent. Last one i fixed up snapped the head off a valve and smashed it through the
piston, this was done at cranking speed aswell.

Frank - for what it's worth, as I can't remember what Zetec you're running, I think I have a used but OK 2 litre silvertop head that
needs a bit of a clean but was running OK when I took it off my car a couple of years ago. You can have it for a bottle of wine or two if it's
of any use. As I recall it has all the cam bearing caps etc but probably not the tappets (hydraulic type) - can't actually look right now as
it's in my store a couple of miles away.
Cheers, Ian.
