Go with the flow is an awesome track,
steppenwolf - the pusher and born to be wild
Hendrix - if 6 was 9 and little wing
Animals - house of the rising sun
Mamas & Papas - California dreamin
Black Keys - Busted
Audioslave - Cochise
G&R - Sweet child o'mine
Fleetwood Mac - Green Manalisi

That said, I love all of those songs but I wouldn't say you can have a defintive list, thats why I like plugging my mp3 player in, thousands of songs to choose from rather than how many I can fit onto a cd!

A bird in the hand....

Depends. I like having two types of driving music.

Driving home (ie relaxing in the tintop after a shitty day) music

and

DRIVING (yee ha, sliding the 7 round corners) music

Big difference

I've got at least 3 at any time to suit different moods/times of day, AC/DC always make me feel better BUT you either have to have 'borrowed' every album or spent a lot of money buying then all to get the full effect

My 10 track AC/DC CD:
Dirty Deeds
For Those About To Rock
Hells Bells
Highway To Hell
Girls Got Rythm
Flick Of The Switch
Lets Get It Up
Touch Too Much
Problem Child
Back In Black

Guaranteed to make any car faster

Take a look at scootz's list, kick out the pearl jam and replace with something like sensor/silverfish and that's a pretty damn good list!

Beat and rythm can be important with driving music, especially if you drive at anything less than fully awake.
My current top ten for in the car

Joy Division-Disorder
The Beatles-Two of Us
Wings-Jet
The Who-Won't get fooled again
The Cure-In Between Days
Bruce Springsteen-Born to Run
Bowie-Young Americans
Franz Ferdinand-Ulysses
Glen Campbell-These Days
Fleetwood Mac-The Chain

on another note, Pornography by the cure is possible the worst album to drive to whether you like it or not, worse than Revolution 9 on repeat.

Nooooooooo... PJ stays!!! I have two PJ 'driving' playlists on my iPod - one is riotous and the other soothing!

Lukin is a must on any 'noisy' driving playlist! They say the 'brightest lights shine the shortest'... 60 seconds of pure musical rage!

i dont really have specific driving cds, since i only listen to cds when driving. However, when driving home late after a 15 hour day, when the heads a bit fried, i do like 'tales...' by amorphis and dance of death by Maiden. Great scream-along tracks!

thats said i had ecuador by sash on today

Very good list you've got there mango, its almost as if you've been driving my car....

To be honest I prefer whole Albums when I'm driving, Albums topping my list include Band on the Run, Pet Sounds, Let It Be, Unkown Pleasures, Brothers in arms and of course Rumors.
