Zetec starter jamming...

Finally tried to start the zetec today. Fitted the correct, brand new sierra dohc starter motor, but it is working intermitently.
The solenoid is engaging every time, but the starter only turns sometimes.
The starter has been tested out of the car and is working every time, so something is causing a problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I was going to tax the car tomorrow, but I think that may have to wait now.

cheers

john

often a bad conection or a flat batery.

Mines been stood for the last 9 months and started doing it.

Just a case of cleaning connections and nipping them back up.

Hi Warren
Would the solenoid still operate if it was a bad connection?

Cheers

Yes, cause it doesn't need much current to operate it...

Thanks Warren and Steve, I'll check the connections.
The engine did start and run, but was rough. We pulled the plugs out, they are well shot, so hopefully will be sorted with a new set.
Might tax it after all.

cheers

I'm optimistic that there will be a 30 minute break in the snow and gale force wind between 3 and 3.30pm, two weeks on friday.
Only problem, I'll be at work.

The engine itself will make it jam if its kicking back.

Mine did it. Type 9 box with cvh starter. I put a washer between the starter and the bellhousing hasnt done it since.

Steve, how much do you reckon? They are about £25 on the bay.

Dan, thanks for that mate. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

starter

my starter occasionaly wont turn, try the key again and it does turn and cranks like a good un, all earths good, you could drive the car down the road on the starter so the voltage is good, i think sometimes the internal connection in the starter has a hiccup.

its always started on the second or third go so ive never changed it.
