LT77 Gearbox bearing issue

Hi,

Hope someone could shed a bit of light before I remove it.

If the car is in neutrel and the clutch is release there is a definite bearing whine, depress the clutch and it goes away.

Anyone throw a bit of knowledge into likely culprit or am i better just taking the box out and sending off to someone.

Cheers

My TVR does that but not a whine but a sort of rumble banging and a sound of gears trying to enter the cockpit. Its going for rebuild in 2 weeks LT77 too

Unlikely to be the release bearing

Sounds like one of the needle rollers in the box main shaft these boxes are really sensitive to the correct lubrication -- correct level and oil grade ideally MTF94 at a pinch Dextron ATF or 10w/40 engine oil as a 3rd choice..

I agree, unlikely to be release bearing as it would wine with clutch depressed.

It also wines when driving.

Looks like it's coming out!!

Cheers for replies
