Zetec
Anyone know anything about Zetec lumps?
Need to know..
a) how to tell how big it is (looked on the head but couldn't see any markings)
b) will it go in a Locost?
c) what the score is on emissions (don't know how old it is or even what car it came out of!)

Engine codes on zetec
1.6 = L1E
1.8 =RDA,RQB
codes for zetec-E engines
1.6 = L1H,LIK
1.8 = RKC
sorry dont have anything on 2litres as i've only got hescort info.
To get away with no cat you need a pre 95 engine.
2 Litre info should be in mondeo manuals.

I've seen them for £400 around and about,not sure of age though.
Try findit.co.uk in the cars/kitcar sections normally some there,they will bolt onto a type 9 sierra box so i'm told

Have a mate with a Westfield which has an 1800 Zetec lump, seems quite high (like pinto) so I would imagine big hole in bonnet - the westie has a
bulge in the bonnet - not that sort of bulge!
The major downfall with a cat version is space - on this car the pipe goes straight down, then forwards around engine back down centre of car then
into the same end of a side mounted silencer as it exits! takes about half an hour for the exhaust gas to find its way out of the car!!
So, yes it will fit but it'll be tight, get a pre CAT one, and £150 sounds as if half of it is missing!

It's cheap because I know the owner of the scrappy where it is and I know it's legit because It's still in the car (which is mashed!) in his
scrappy. Will have to go down and see if it's still there but I'm sure he'll get another one if not - Escorts/Orions of that era are not so hard
to come by as they were.
Everything is there (including injection system and loom) but I'll probably convert it to carbs to some rewiring will be in order. Injection systems
seem like too much trouble and you can't beat the sound of a set of 40's!
What's everyone's verdict on the Zetec then? I was really put off when I saw a Pinto out of a car and realised exactly how high it is! ..oh and
after everyone told me how crap my Valencia would be if I ever got around to putting it back together!

Zetec engines generally they don't break as much as other older Fords the the demand in scrappies isn't as great as you migh think, my
local scrappies had couple of Mondeos that the engines were fine but nobody wanted.
For SVA purposes the trick is to get an early one.

1.6 zetec or 2.0 pinto
when i looked into this the 1.6 zetec dident have a power advantage over the good old 2 ltr pinto and the sparks were controlled by the ecu so i
thought it wasent worth the extra work
the 1.8 and 2ltr zetec did look worth the extra work but i found them to costly

For what its worth a standard Zetec is 660mm high, (base of sump to top of timing belt cover)
It will not fit into a standard Locost chassis without a substantial bonnet bulge a la Avon for example.
If mating it to an MT75 you can lose about 25mm off the bottom of the sump and I would assume it would be about the same for a type 9.
Your price seems very good, shame it's only a 1600.
On the plus side if it's from an Escort the water pump should rotate the right way.
Looking to the future I'm pretty sure the only major component you would have to change to increase the capacity would be the head. I'm
sure others will either confirm this or correct me.
More modern engine, got to be the way to go.

Cheapest way to buy an engine is to look somewhere like here, where you can get the complete car, running,
for £150/£200. Nick all the injection, loom and management, not to mention all the other bits and bobs that come in handy.
