Registering Old Lotus 7

I have an unusual situation which somone here might have come across before.....?

I am building up a Lotus seven S4 from a bare chassis I bought. I'll be fitting Ford Escort Mk2 components as originally fitted to the car.

The chassis I bought was replaced in the original car, so came without the original chassis ID, thought it is a genuine chassis (has the frame number (manufacturer / suppliers number, NOT the chassis number) stamped on it)

I Believe that if I build it up as an EXACT S4 I can get it registered as a Lotus, as the historic Lotus register will verify it.

However, this isn't cost effective, and I plan to build it up as a period style clubmans car, making the frame into a fuller space frame (the S4 takes a lot of it's strength from the integral GRP tub) and fit my own design of body work etc.

Apparently the 3 of 5 component rule still exists - if I use Ford engine, box and rear axle it could be classed as a 'remanufactured' Ford?

But, in that case, i have the chassis, engine , box, axle and F/R suspension, so why can't it be a 'remanufactured' Lotus?

Would I have to go through the SVA (or whatever it's called now)? even though it will be built up in the style of C1970, the genuine age of the car?

IVA I would have thought. Too many non original bits unless you can prove they are fro the original car. DVLA may want to know why the chassis was replaced.

The way I look at it, as the car that the chassis came from has retained its original registration with a different replacement chassis, then your chassis cannot have the same registration. That means it can't be the same car and therefore needs IVA.

The question about parts, etc. applies as now - you can get age-related registration number (not registration date) if you get the relevant number of points from components. I would have thought it would be difficult to prove that the date of the chassis and any components is the same...

Also, wouldn't the original be more likely to have had Escort Mk1 and not Mk2 components? I thought the S4 died in about 1974 and the Mk2 came in in 1975?
