OT:- What to do in Edinburgh at Xmas time???

Hi All,

We (Myself, Milenah and 6 month old Josef) are going to Edinburgh on 22Dec for one week, so that will include Xmas day.

I've been to Edinburgh before but only for the weekend and rushed round to do stuff, so although I have a brief appreciation of where stuff is and of the place generally, I was wondering whether the people of LCB had any suggestions of stuff to do on a budget in and around Edinburgh?!?

We will have a car there, so travel is an option, but I don't want to be driving all over the place!

Cheers in advance!

Steve

Whenever I have guests over I tend to take them to Edinburgh Castle. Although pricey at £13 per adult (baby goes free), it's still money well spent IMHO! Never fails to impress - try to plan your visit for a dry-spell and make sure you take a camera!

Other things I'd recommend in City Centre:
The Real Mary Kings Close.
The National Museum.
A wander around Princes Street Gardens.

Bit further out:
Sea Life Centre (20 mins away)
Museum of Flight (30 mins away - it's in our back garden, so pop in for a coffee and see the horses, highland cows and dogs!).

this is interesting - about 25 miles by car and free parking now I think.

Stirling is also a nice place for a day out.

The national museum is a must and the tarten factory just outside the castle, camera obscura is ok for the kids but not a must i would say. Bob int the bank on the mound and see £1,000,000 in notes (its free) Enjoy the carnival with the rides etc and also the open market on princess is street is a must at christmas, mulled wine, german sausages are great during the cold wintery nights!

Got to go to Jenners (big store in Princes Street) to see their giant Christmas Tree - kids will love it. Try working out how they get it in there.

Also second recommendation for the Christmas Market, and also pop in to see the ourdoor ice rink in Princes St Gardens.

Scottish Parliament building worth a visit (free) - just to see what £500m will get you.
