OT: mpeg-4 avc/h.264 1080p video editing

My laptop:
Toshiba Qosmio
P8400 @ 2.26 ghz intel centrino2
Quad core graphics card
4gb ram.

Ive tried lots of video editing software but the closest I can get to an acceptable dvd quality is with Nero.

What laptop/PC and software would give me good results?
I dont want to go spending loads of money and find out I'm no better off!

If you are after video editing thats easy and professional then you will do no better than buying a mac with it you will get imovie and idvd. If you want to go to the next level then buy Final Cut Pro / Studio (which is what I have). Very easy to use prof peice of software.

I tried looking at windows based systems, but in the end went with a mac and after that I have never looked back.

Pete.
