Just ring up your insurance company and explain the situation to them. I'm sure they'd be understanding and extend your cover on the chassis number for a couple of weeks.

Or ask them to suspend the insurance for a week or two - you can't drive it anywhere for the time being anyway.

I took a day off and registered mine personally, some DVLA centres will, I used Nottingham - 30 minute wait in the queue then out again with my registration certificate & tax disk in hand. If you are going for a non-Q plate may take longer for build inspection though.

I did mine at Notts on a new build and walked out within 20 minutes with reg number and tax disc.

I personally took mine to the DVLA and they inspected it there and then. Call them so see if you can get a slot for an inspection.
