propshaft alignment
Can anyone tell me if the prop on my roadster(sierra) has a maximum angle that it can be offset to accomodate an R1 bike engine and would this cause
any vibration problems!!
There is a bearing fixed to the chassis keeping the back bit level to the diff but the front half after the UJ has to rise by about 50mm over approx
600mm to marry up with the drive sprocket
Any help appreciated

THat should be fine.
You dont want a straight prop if you are running a centre bearing, as they don't last as well.
Any clearance issues with the tunnel?

UJ joins should never have more than a 7 degree angle.

Guess it will depend on the type of joints that you are using your not using the sierra prop are you?

The propshaft came with a part finished project so i'm not sure exactly what it is !!
I was told it was sierra that has been cut & shortened and it fits to the xr4+4 lsd diff I've bought
I plan to have it checked & balanced as a precaution
Whats the problem with a sierra propshaft?

hi, theres nothing wrong with the sierra prop,
i kinda read your post differently thinking you werent using the sierra one but having reread i see what you mean, i think lol
anyway 50mm in 600mm sounds pretty reasonable to me.
if your not sure about the prop you have post up some pics and someone will tell you what you have.

very useful advice!!
Many thanks to all, i had the front section of the prop angled i will now adjust to have the rear angled as per Dan's diagram!!
Can anybody recommend who might balance this prop for me?
Also i have a 8" diameter cog fitted to front half for reverse gear setup (yet to be properly devised) will this be a problem for balancing?

50mm over 600mm is 4.8 degrees, so seems well within the guidelines quoted above.
