If its a brand new unit then it may not have one as they came un stamped and the dealer stamped it when fitting. Its on the edge of where the bell housing meets same side as the crank position sensor, I'll see if I've a picture..

I've got the same issue, just got one of one of the guys on here and I can only see half of the number, any ideas how I can read it? It looks like it has corroded away a little.

Thats where its supposed to be, so must have been a new engine and could have been stamped anywhere, is it a blacktop?

This site is ace http://www.toyne.org.uk/zetec-engine.html

Im sure this was discussed before and the general concencus was to head downa scrappy, find a 2.0 zetec ford and 'borrow' the engine number.

Zetecs only have numbers if they have come out of a oem car.

New engines or service/warranty jobs don't have them/ Dealers stamp the number off the old engine when they swap them.

Is it for your Jago or are you building a new 7?

its a crate engine
i was really just trying to identify the type of engine rather than the engine serial number

Crate engines don't come with numbers. The supplier should provide you with a declaration form stating year of manufacture etc. This is needed to ensure the correct emmissions test is carried out at MOT in 3 years time.

I have the same issue as I've just fitted the same to my Indy. Kitpartsdirect should supply you with the form.

Hope that helps?
