no cat needed, as its pre95, so all it will need is a fiddle at the carbs to set it up well. shouldnt be too hard, either for a competent you or at a garage/rolling road.

from the donor, id guess you want the engine and all associated wires, any sensors, maybe a lambda sensor if there is one... probably more but someone will round off the list!

Also will a cvh sump fit the engine and if so what pickup pipe would be needed and how easy is it to get the temp sender to work with a set of sierra clocks

You will need to decide if you are going to use an aftermarket ECU which is easier and more flexible or Ford donor item. Aftermarket ECU is between £300-£500 depending on which one, most come pre mapped and are easy to fiddle with. Ford ECU can be used but needs work to get it to work without Ford injection and all the other sensors it is expecting an input from. This is the most expensive part of the install so have a good read up on the options before diving in too deep.

Never heard of the CVH sump route. Most mod the zetec Escort or Mondeo sump and pickup, easy if you can weld ali.

Good luck, it will be worth it!

"easy if you can weld ali"

Is it a simple skill to pick up then?

Easy if you know somebody who can weld ali, otherwise it's forkout time.

For the ecu I was planning to use an Omex unit from Dunnell

Very good choice, but suspect they "lock" the ECU so only they can change, if you intend to stick with them then fine, but if you want to do changes might be worth looking at others like Emerald.

They do offer a complete package and are one of the best with zetecs, they also give excellent advice rather than advice which fits their marketing plan!

The Dunnel sump and pickup is a good bit of kit if a little expensive, but it is well proven and a lot cheaper than Racelines' unit.

Also would 40 dcoe's be sufficient or does it have to be 45's

40s will give better low down power, should be fine for standard 2ltr. If going for modified engine you will need 45s.

As long as you can pick up the Webers cheap and ready to go s/h they are a good option. If you end up getting new ones go for TB as the price is almost the same, and if you are buying an aftermarket ECU it should run the injection anyway. I'm always on the look out for s/h TB but you don't see many come up.

Also remember you will need a pre "95 engine to get thru SVA with carbs. There are so many about it should be easy, most are sitting in yards in cars and can be heard running if you let the breaker know you want one.

general rule twin 40s up to 140 bhp -- above 140 start to look to twin 45 s, above 160 bhp twin 45 are a must have.

As the Zetec should kick out more than 160 bhp --- go for 45s.

If you have a car on the road registered and in use then no SVA required. If you are building a new car from old or new parts you will need a SVA to get it registered.
